Casino games developer Aristocrat has announced that its fan-favorite Lightning Link slot franchise has made the jump from land-based gaming to digital, with the online slots expected to go live across the North American-regulated market.

Key Takeaways

  • Aristocrat is bringing its Lightning Link slot series online across North America.

  • The first game available will be Lightning Link High Stakes.

  • The title features Las Vegas-style gameplay and a progressive jackpot.

The franchise will be launched online through Aristocrat Interactive, the company’s real-money gaming studio. Lightning Link High Stakes will be the first game available to players throughout North America, including the seven U.S. states that currently regulate online gaming, as well as Ontario and Alberta in Canada.

The games will be available on major operators in the regions, with Aristocrat adding that more titles will be announced in the coming months.

The slot will feature Las Vegas-style gameplay and imagery synonymous with Sin City, including roulette wheels, poker chips, and luxury cars. It will also include a range of gameplay mechanics, such as Hold & Spin, multi-denomination play, and a Big Reel feature that appears during Free Games. Both a shared progressive jackpot and a Grand Jackpot will also be available.

"The launch of Lightning Link brings one of the most successful land-based slot game families in history to online players across the U.S. and Canada. This is a full-scale network rollout supported by the industry's largest operators, featuring a roadmap of subsequent legendary titles," Aristocrat Interactive CEO Dylan Slaney said.

"Lightning Link is synonymous with gaming around the world. By translating this tried-and-true land-based game family for the online RMG space, we deliver a product with proven performance data. This is the definition of omni-channel excellence: taking this global sensation and optimizing it for the digital frontier," Slaney continued.

Light & Wonder reaches $127.5 million settlement with Aristocrat

Despite being in the spotlight for bringing its beloved slot franchise to online casinos across North America, Aristocrat also shared the limelight with rival Light & Wonder earlier in the year when the two groups agreed to a $127.5 million settlement over alleged trade secrets and copyright violations.

The case stems back to 2024 after Aristocrat filed a lawsuit against Light & Wonder, claiming that the company had illegally obtained mathematical models and game mechanics tied to Aristocrat’s Dragon Link slot series to incorporate into its own Dragon Train and Jewel of the Dragon titles.

Specific terms of the settlement between the two remain undisclosed, but Light & Wonder admitted to using certain Aristocrat math models in its games, agreed to delete all documents containing the information, and promised not to use it further.

“Aristocrat welcomes fair competition but will always robustly defend and enforce its intellectual property rights. As an ideas and innovation company, our intellectual property is vital to our ongoing success. We are committed to protecting the great work of our dedicated creative and technical teams. We welcome this positive outcome, which includes significant financial compensation and follows the decisive action we took to ensure the preservation of Aristocrat’s valuable intellectual property assets,” Aristocrat CEO and Managing Director, Trevor Croker, said in a statement.
