HAHAHA. I may be nieve too but i like the cubbies this year. Everyone will be on the Mets bandwagon for the NL but i am not convinced yet.
It's time to end the curse of the billy goat.
 
Oh and someone please fill me in with this estreet debacle from last year. HAHAHA.

Estreet is one of the best stories in Covers lore.  This guy would only post Spring Training, and he destroyed Spring Training the only year that I followed him (06) but apparently he had been doing so for the last couple of years.  Well there was a load of well deserved hype about estreet before last years Spring Training and he released one game the first day of the season (Mets that lost in a laugher) after that he went tout....

I wrote about that tool last week on my blog:

Baseball is around the corner and reminded me of a funny (to me) incident last year...

A little over a year ago on the baseball forum at Covers.com, there was a buzz brewing over whether-or-not a poster, Estreet, would be back to post his pre-season MLB picks. Estreet gained cult status on the forum by accumulating approximately $70,000 by betting exclusively 2006 pre-season Grapefruit League baseball games. After the pre-season was over, he astounded many by leaving the forum stating he doesn't bet the regular season games.

His return to the 2007 pre-season, was being eagerly anticipated by many, but left unsure if he would return at all. A couple of weeks before the start of the pre-season, sure enough, Estreet confirmed he would be returning to make his picks. The forum turned rather ravenous as the first day of Grapefruit League play arrived. An hour until the games started, there were still no posted plays by Estreet. It wasn't until a few minutes until play started, the much awaited post came. Most, if not all of the posters, who wanted to play his picks, couldn't get their bets in on time.

Needless to say, a lot of complaining, hate and discontent ensued. Some posters made excuses for Estreet by saying he needed to make sure his bets were in before he released his plays and he needed to make sure there were no last minute line-up changes, etc.

Then the drama bomb was released. Estreet announced he was going tout. If you wanted his plays, you would have to go to hell.

All hell broke out. Most posters felt betrayed because Estreet knew he was going tout all along. Estreet's posts were quickly dumped into the forum reserved for touts and Estreet quickly disappeared from the forum.

Estreet started with a $10,000 bankroll. At first, he started with relatively appropriate sized bets, $100-$400, for his plays. He had a rough few days and then started to chase his losses. Bets were becoming $500-$700 the next day if he lost. He was having a horrible season, and the chasing begat more chasing. Some plays were becoming $1000-$2000 or more. More losses amounted and then finally busted out.

Estreet turned out to be a pure gambler, not an expert handicapper, but I do have to respect that he keep a true and accurate account of his record freely available to anyone on his site.

I returned to check out his site today and it seems he has plans for the upcoming 2008 pre-season. My eyebrows were a little raised at his claim, "For the past four winning years, Estreet's Grapefruit League selections have been publicly posted and have netted followers close to $70,000 in profits.”

Caveat emptor.

Interesting. Well, I don't agree with the "Past four "winning" years" remark. But, maybe only those of us at covers know this guy that well.

The rest of the rubes out there might buy his nonsense up. But come on, pre-season is purely entertainment.

I'm not against estreet.  I tailed him for most of 2005 and made a small mint which bankrolled my entire season.   Unfortunately, the prick went tout and crashed his career into the ditch.  To get out, he's going to need a bigger tow truck.

I don't see why anyone would pay for his picks, he just does what we are all doing, wait for the lineups and pick the team actually using their projected opening day starters.  Do you really need a tout to tell you to fade the lineup with a bunch of AAA players?

From what I recall of those estreet spring training years, is that a LOT of the posters were winning their picks, and it was purely based on starting lineups... Sure there'd be an upset every now and then, but the lines aren't loaded with juice to begin with, so most gamblers won regardless of estreet (although his info did help)

Yah that is pretty much what I figured.  The teams playing most of their starters must have won an inordinate amount of games that year.  That kind of concerns me about what happened last year though?  Did eStreet change his capping methods or were the same plays he was making 2 years ago just not work out last Spring Training?

Ahhh the jealousy of someone who gets paid for his picks instead of just losing their own money. I love people that hate on others for having a skill that people are willing to pay for. Good luck fellas.
