shopping for a camcorder

Question

do I want minidv - straight to dvd - or hard drive? I am not making movies I am shooting family and friends and watching the video later. I have a 7 year old JVC that uses those mini VHS tapes. It stll works the quality is good and I can pop them in the VHS converter right away and watch what I recorded. Maybe I don;t need a new camcorder after all. Wait till technology clears up - or that will never happen.

I think we talked about it, not sure if it was in this area, but Van mentioned one he was going to get..a Sony with a 40G HD and it seems reasonable to me..8-9 hrs of recording, direct burn capabilities etc..

I could be nudged to get one but pricing would need to be awesome..

yes, I posted a similar question in Gen Disc but thought here I would get a techies analysis of the current/future direction - guess not - it&#x27;s cool - I am in conversation with one of my contacts at tiger direct now.

Just saw this, you can&#x27;t go wrong with Sony. The 40GB is the way to go.
