Recently I kinda caught my computer on fire. lol I have the MacBook unibody. It's basically a macbook pro, but says MacBook on it. It's the 2008 model. I had the laptop open on a table and a candle on the table melted the plastic apple logo on the back and burned a black mark on my LCD right in the center of the screen.

It'd cost me $400 to have a friend fix it, or $600+ to get it professionally done.

So i've been looking into getting a new macbook or macbook air and I can't figure out which to get.

More importantly, I can't figure out why anyone would buy the MacBook air other than the fact that it's slightly cheaper. It's light and it's thin which is cool, but it doesn't have half of the shit the Pro has.

I guess I'm just looking for some insight from all you guys on here.

but thats the prob im having with mac in general..why pay for (what is often) netbook specs for twice the money?? -apple-

ur answer: but it comes down to personal preference, ive handled the air and was shocked how light it is (i picked it up to move it off a friend's couch)...but the real question is how easily can it be upgraded/future proofed? is 2GB ram its max? etc

yeah i went with the new macbook pro 13inch. it made no sense getting the air for me, regardless of how light it is.

i could have got the imac for the same price with a bigger screen and better specs, but i can't sit on my couch with an imac on my lap lol so the macbook pro it is!

Personally, I would get the pro. But, the air has great advantes if you are the type of person that doesn't need to used disks and external accessories. In other words, if most of the computing you do is on the internet (checking e-mail, etc), and you take your laptop with on the go, I would get the air.

It's funny how people like to pic on Mac and how much they are.  They are more expensive, yes, and basically a computer is a computer - Mac just has a more pleasant interface (for many).  But people buy products all the time that's totally based on label-based recognition and aesthetics when the labeled brand isn't any better then the other brands.  So why pretend that Apple is the only company to do this.  You buy an Apple because you like Apple and you like a computer that's easy to use and basically virus-proof.

yeha at the last top hack tourny chrome being run on a windows machine was the hardest...here is the thing about windows...writing viruses for them are easy..but writing scripts that hijack the whole unit and can do serious damage (esp without notice) takes a super talented script writer...windows OS is a fuckin labyrinth (most if that is by design)..
