I am deciding on what TV to get soon. Need some help.

Guys I am doing some research into which TV to get for our upstairs bedroom. I am getting a 32 inch TV most likely. I probably want to get a SONY, but am open to other brands, especially because of the cost LOL. Here are my questions.
 
Do I want to get a 1080P or a 720P? I have both Time Warner Cable and DirecTV, which broadcast in 1080I. Is the difference between 720P and 1080P that much? I don't watch a lot of DVDs and I do not do any gaming , just watch sports pretty much.
 
Is it worth it to me to get a Sony, compared to say Sharp or Samsung? I am talking about on both fronts, reliability and picture.
 
Is it possible to even find a Sony 32 Inch LCD with 1080P for less than a grand??? All I find are really expensive models. Are other brands just as reliable, or at least close for less cash?
 
I am open to getting a 26 inch for the bedroom, but I am thinking that a 32 Inch TV may be lass than say $800 AFTER Christmas, which I might just wait for. Any advice?
 
Any comments on any of these questions would be helpful. I may get a TV in the next week, OR I may wait until January for those post hoilday sales.

I am a Samsung guy, but Sony makes a great set also.  Get a 1080P if you are going to get a blu-ray player or maybe down the road you get a gaming system.
 
Forget about the 720's.  Get a 1080. 
 
 Here is a great deal on a "46 Sharp for $899
 
Most of the 32" TV's are only 720P

Thanks for the response, Lippsman. Is Sharp a good, reliable product from you know? I get good feedback from the reviews I read on it, but would like some opinions from owners of sets to give a go ahead. Thanks again.

Oh yeah, Sharp is quite good.  Not as good as Samsung or Sony, but still very good.
 
The blacks are quite as good as Samsung or Sony, but for most people you would have to have them side by side to really tell

Vizio is awesome for HDTV's such a clear picture. Samsung is really good for bigger TVs 42" +

I just picked up this 50" Samsung Plasma today.....


$899


You can't beat that deal. Trust me.

And nothing is available in 1080p except for blu-ray....

You have to ask yourself if $6-700 extra is worth being able to only watch 1 thing on, to maximize everything at 1080p TV has to offer.

To me, no way.

It will be years until cable is broadcast in 1080p, and by then I will be looking for a new TV anyways.

Wrong........PS3 and X-Box 360 can both output at 1080P

Also, with TV's 50" and smaller you will have a hard time telling the difference between 720 and 1080.  Unless you are watching something that is 1080P of course. But anything bigger than that, you can tell the difference.

1080P screens have better contrast and color saturation. Although there are some very good 720 screens out there.  But they are becoming very few and far between now
