Cursor problems

I have found recently that I'm having to double left click or treble click on links or regular basic functions to get them open.Sometimes I see this circle with a diagonal cross in the middle come up as well.

I don't think this a form of shift lock as  I've inadvertantly activated that before and got it back ok

could it be something wrong with the left click button on my laptop or is it something else ??

I tried that but it doesn't seem to have worked I'm using the touchpad now instead of the right click button which seems to be totally screwed

I'll probably just buy a new mouse for it
