pct rating and where the team is in standings is good place to start.  also look to see if there playing east to west or  west  to  west or east to east if nba ,  nhl  or  nfl.   in mlb  look to see if american league or national league teams are playing.

It depends on what you want to learn. The way I see it, you should start from learning betting psychology, and then Value betting and arbitrage. Then you need to understand how staking plans are working. All other information for bookmakers and exchanges can be found in forums/blogs.
