generally early in the week for football, the public bets the favorite then late in the week the underdog bettors come in once the line has moved a bit. general idea but not always the case.

This is right, bet your favorites early and take the dog's late. The only time this might change is if there is a major injury. You'll see more big line moves based on injury in basketball than you will in football. good luck.
