phatbastard -- was actually pick-up craps where players "faded" the shooters bets. Probably right that it evolved from that.

Fading means "playing opposite" - to be honest, I've been gambling on sports for over 30 years, never heard that phrase until I became a member, it didn't take too long for me to figure out what it meant!
