ATS records - who's line are we really talking about?

We can all pour over the data and devise systems based on "against-the-spread" results. But more specifically, when we see that data on handicapper sheets or covers.com or wherever, who's line are we referencing?

Is it from the Imperial Palace? THe Las Vegas Hilton? Is it the earliest line posted or the latest line previous to kickoff? I honestly do not know for sure. Depending on the sportsbook, it could be a range of 1.5 points and then it's a guessing game and that is just not the sharpest approach for an aspiring sharpie.

I want to be as certain as possible about which line to rely on when making my system-based bets. Anybody know for sure?

I think it's safe too say most people go with closing lines on covers. at least that's what I do when I cap games.

I am not attacking you. It is a phrase we use here in the Middle East. It basically relates to what you are saying. Poop is brown to me, but could be green to someone else depending on their diet. Just like lines, people will see different things on the same game. You would think there is a standard line (like the standard color for poop is brown), but in reality it can be many things.

And actually, I am from Ubekistan. In the Firetower Provence. Pakistan was the closest country for me to choose from on my profile.
