I understand it was a painful loss believe me I feel for Skip. But when you're looking at $25K you have to look for the easy games not a game that's a huge rivalry game with a lot at stake. That's my position.

I love Matt Cain but this has all the hallmarks of a trap game. Believe me this is a huge rivalry in the Bay Area. Anytime Oakland and SF play it's huge. Oakland has more pennants than the Giants and they still have an inferiority complex. It's so bad that at Raiders game they announce and show every score except the Niners. At least when Davis was around. Now the Giants are trying to prevent the A's from moving to San Jose. You have no idea how intense this rivalry is unless you have lived there. Personally everything points to the Giants but it would be a sweep and they're playing in Oakland. I say don't touch this game because Oakland will be pumped. You see how they came back on the Giants Saturday.

The above post is my only point. What looked good on paper was simply the wrong game to pick with the circumstances surrounding that game. There were easier matchups to cap without the extra added emotion of a SF-Oak matchup. There are intangibles that don't necessarily translate on paper. This game was full of those intangibles. For that reason, it would have been best to stay away from it.

all that stuff of it being a rivalry and that oakland would win is stupid. It's all determined on what players produce and which players don't.

  Ok, I didn't realize the rivalry factor involved in this game and series, not being familiar with your area teams. You made some pertinent points, before the game, which deserved consideration. However, they didn't appear on either of the two " Skip " threads until after the fact. In other words, it sounds more like an uneccesary " I told you so " kind of response instead of a " better luck next time " one.

  Skip waited on a pitcher and team that was a staple throughout his streak but simply came out on the short end.

Agreed. But I wasn't trying to "gotcha" the guy. We were rooting for him all the way. That's the way we do it in the $25 Dime Club. He made the pick the day before the game so I didn't even have a chance to post anything until later that night before the game.

If you don't think rivalries have anything to do with sports I'm actually ashamed of you. Being a Yankee fan like myself you should no better. So you're telling me that the Yankees don't get more pumped up when they're playing Boston. You can't be serious! Besides you live in Canada and have no clue about rivalries between U.S. cities. But since you're Canadian let's just start with Toronto-Montreal. Are you telling me those cities don't have a rivalry? In closing rivalries especially regional rivalries have always played a big role in sports worldwide. So either you're a complete newbie to the sports world or you just choose to ignore the obvious. I will give you the benefit of the doubt and say you must be new to sports.

   You played the odds and put in an excellent pick that didn't quite pan out! Your streak of picking 19 winners is something to be proud of and that allowed you to win 1K plus one hat & one hoodie. There are very few of us who participate in this Streak Survivor contest who can say that we have achieved what you have.
