Alright.  I can breathe again.

That was a total friggin miracle.  In no way shape or form did Belgium deserve to win that game.

Totally undeserved.

What makes you say that? I only saw the last 30 minutes, but it really looked like Belgium had the better possessions during that time.

Its interesting that if this Algeria score holds (Algeria wins).....

The Belgium goal against Russia meant absolutely nothing to Russia.

They would have to beat Algeria in the last game either way to advance, and they would have no realistic shot at winning the group either way.

With that late Belgium goal and easy Algeria win, I'm gonna quit while I'm ahead. I don't trust the U.S. They rarely put more than two passes together vs Ghana. Can they do it with just True Grit again?

You are partially correct. portugal has a 5 goal differential to make up. but the third tie breaker is goals scored, so portugal has to make up the differential by winning 3-0 or better, and usa losing 0-2. in case of portugal winning 2-0 and usa losing 0-4, both teams would be 4-6 in goals for-against, and i dont know who would win the tie breaker

the bigger threat for the usa is ghanna, who only have to make up a goal differential of 2 on the usa. once again, i dont know what would happen if us loses 0-1 and ghanna wins 1-0, leaving both teams with a goals for-against of 4-4.

Bet365 currently has usa -500 to advance, ghanna +600 to advance, portugal +900 to advance

Forget about Portugal advancing, they face a 5 GD to the U.S.  as you mention.  Doesn't matter, though, as I think Ghana is the better team than Portugal,...   U.S. put themselves here in a really bad spot against a pissed off German crew.

In the second scenario, U.S. will advance based on goals scored

Not sure what happens in the first scenario, because they would be tied in GD, GS and head-to-head... can't remember the next tie-breaker after those.


Anyway, the U.S. is much more worried about Ghana winning than Portugal, because they only have a 2 goal margin in GD, and a 1 goal margin in GS.  However, they did beat Ghana head-to-head, so if the first two are tied, U.S. would still advance.

Of course, as long as Germany takes it easy and plays for the draw (which is very possible), the rest is moot.
