Have a look at the target audience.

If they are trying to poach Footy Show viewers, they can hardly be too witty.

No way Matthew Johns can ever go anywhere near anything remotely risque ever again with any of his new or old characters. The rules have changed forever for him.

Given what he's just gone through and been banished for, his comedic acts can only ever be "above the belt" from this point on.
