First of all - has anytbody got any information regarding the teams for this evening's clash at Skilled? According to nrl.com (https://www.nrl.com/NewsViews/LatestNews/NewsArticle/tabid/10874/newsId/55230/Boyd-Harrison-out-of-NRL-game-over-flu/Default.aspx) Darius Boyd and Ashley Harrison have both been ruled out after direction from health authorities. As if there wasn't enough variables in this caper - now we have to try and interpret the effects of Swine Flu.
But is there any other ins/outs, or other information that we as bettors need to be aware of? This game started at basically a pk-em, and 1.95 was even available at Pinnacle earlier this morning for both sides, but since then St. George have been crunched into as short as 1.68. This can't be due to the withdrawal of one Titans player, surely?
The Titans have been my bet of the weekend in NRL all weekend, have them as the last leg of a very significant parlay, and was going to get them again in a single tonight. Briefly, here's why:
- Titans are 5-0 at Skilled this season.
- Titans have had fifteen days to prepare for this match, with their last hitout being a 18-17 win on the 24th of May.
- They sit 8th on the ladder, 7-4, and are presented with an opportunity to move to 3rd, cementing their position in the eight. In the past two seasons, it has been during this mid-season grind that the Titans' campaign has fallen away. Cartwright will be aware of this and will be doing everything to get his team up for this one.
- They have a halfback, a Queenslander, who probably didn't delight in lauding the Maroon's all-strar backline as much as the rest of his state did last Wednesday night. Scott Prince would walk into most QLD origin teams, but unfortunately he sits behind probably the best player in the world at the moment. He'll be itching to send out a little reminder of what he can do.
The Dragons have been outstanding this season, and it is maybe a little negligent to ignore their 5-0 record against the Titans since the Titans inception in 2007. But as we saw last week with the Bulldogs, it is an even competiton and if you are slightly a little off you can and will be punished, and it is difficult to produce 100% performances week in week out. I suspect the Dragons may, may come out just a little off, while everything points to the Titans turning up to play.
I thought 1.95 was a great price for the home side when a parlayed the Titans on Friday, so the 2.20 SEEMS to be an absolute gift - that is, unless there is some information I am unaware of. If there isn't, and this is just a big go on the Saints due to their recent form, I'll be having another pop at the Gold Coast close to kickoff at the best price I can find.
