Well firstly, his axing from the Broncos came about due to a pattern of what the average person would consider relatively minor indiscretions - repeatedly turning up late to training ect. Here's a story about it.
The club is restoring its hardline policy on players doing all the 'one percenters' since Anthony Griffin took over as coach. That had started to slip a little during Wayne Bennett's later years.
Gagai actually stayed on at the Broncos after he was given permission to go and continued to train etc until he found a new home - so that seems proof enough that there was no hidden atrocity that led to his sacking.
It was a big call from 'Hook' in the sense that Gagai was rated as a really talented back by the Broncos - but rules are rules. So in short, I wouldn't expect to see this youngster lining up in first grade anytime soon because that's never been the Wayne Bennett way and he and Griffin are very similar.
Bennett will have done his homework on the reasons Gagai was released (he's probably even spoken directly to Griffin as the two are close) and he'll be looking for some genuine signs that the kid has changed his attitude and is taking things a bit more seriously.
Apart from all that, I hear that Gagai likes hang gliding, haberdashery and songs about boats.

Wayne Bennet was born in luck considering the teams he has had
Broncos with a whole QLD team to chose from
QLD origin teams
Australian teams
And a Dragons team that was virtually in the top 4 every year before that.
Watne Bennet = LUCKY
Whats wrong Bennet, you have an average roster and you cant get them to win? In fact i would say it is slightly above average.
