Question

In an effort to speed up the pace of play, crazy format this week being tried out where on each shot the player is “on the clock”.

One would think the older and/or the slower players and/or players not familiar with the course might be at a disadvantage

Conversely the younger, faster and players with vast course experience might have the advantage.

With that said I am going to play a few head to heads with the Austrian Mathias Schwaab. He was in fact quoted

“It’s great for me that they are testing it here in Austria. I know the course fairly well so I’m sure that’s a bit of an advantage for me...”

Schwaab -130 v Wu
Schwaab -125 v Korhonen

Schwaab is a 23 year old up and comer who has performed well. Already a higher OWGR (326) than Wu (344)
Last week he was T42 at Italian Open in a good field
Before that T10 at the Czech Challenge and T20 at the Rocco Forte.

I am NOT even fooling with this week sacker because of this "shot clock" foolishness and most top Euro Tour players are NOT either. was a GOOD tourney when it was the Lyoness Open in the past, STILL on that tight Diamond CC course BUT it says something when players like last years winner Dylan Frittelli and local Austrian hero Bernd Wiesberger along with Joost Luiten, Matt Wallace, Lucas Bjerregaard and Alex Bjork who played last year begged off this time around

starting to have just TOO many "gimmick golf" tourneys on the Euro Tour. at least we have the BMW International in Munich Germany followed the Rolex Series Open de France, Irish Open and Scottish Open leading into The Open Championship coming up after the US Open

All 3 were in the early wave. Conditions perfect.

Average score is 2 strokes lower than usual

Leader is -5

Can’t control the matchups they give you.

Schwab played well at -3 T7

But the matchup guys were better and same

Korhonen -4 in 2nd

Wu -3 T7

The bet was Schwab who did play well. No bogeys. Missed some makeable putts from the 5 holes I watched. Problem is the other guys are playing well too and have decent histories here.

The shot clock so far is a Non issue. Didn’t see any penalties.

The commentators were saying that maybe they should start the clock a bit earlier.

sacker17 · Answer

Early RD2 and Schwab holding up his end at T5 -6

Damn unlucky as the matchups they gave me (not top players) are both also -6.

If u told me Schwab was T5 I’d have said no way I’m not winning.

sacker17 · Answer

Looks like a split

Schwab up 6 on Wu on back 9 Sunday Schwab -7 (16) T12

Wu blew up and is now -1 (12).

Meanwhile Korhonen on a mission pulling away to win the event.

I’ll take the split. Lose some vig

Schwab was good so it would’ve sucked to lose both.

YES congratulations to Mikko for FINALLY winning his first Euro Tour tourney. turned pro in 2004. had been "wicked close" a number of times with the latest a solo 3rd at the Tshwane Open back in March and tied 2nd here last season when it was the Lyoness Open one shot back of Dylan Frittelli

there were only four time penalties called during the tourney and the Golf Channel commentators were saying the scores were actually LOWER this year than last so I guess the shot clock "gimmick" was NOT a big deal
