you're definitely on to something there. if you are going out with friends, having a good time and getting laid, you aren't planning some mass shooting of kids and carrying it out. i think we can all agree on that. and to that extent, anyone who represses sexual expression is not doing society any favors.
and i largely agree with the rest, particularly the pharmaceutical angle. you know what our government's solution is to people with mental problems who don't perfectly fit into society and act out one way or another- throw them in jail. our jails and prisons are overcrowded and the government responds to this by throwing more money into police, DOJ, prisons, etc. but there are two ways to solve that problem: 1. if people shut the darn up when police knock on their door and/or arrest them and 2. we took the people with mental illnesses out of jail/prison.
other than that, you know what's happening here. some terrible thing happens, the media seizes upon it and makes it a top story for weeks, but they don't do any investigating or journalism to try and find the true problem or the true cause, it's all surface level, shallow bullshit, the politicians feel like we need to "do something" so they take advantage of the hysteria and pass new laws that won't do anything to help the problem. so to that extent i'm against this kind of gun control because it just means more government and more stupid, ineffective laws.

i have a simple solution that id imagine would go over fairly well with the ninety nine percenters
stop paying and compensating elected officials. all of it and any of it, and no grandfathering in their goodies. whats good for the goose iis good for the gander. no pension, no salary, no health care nada. and take all that recovered public treasure and use it for halfway houses for the homeless and the mentally ill, often which are one in the same. if they dont like it then dont run for office

here's a solution i thought of that i like for this war on drugs. take all of the tax money we are putting into the jails and prisons and give it back to the people. how excited will people be to get a check from the government for all of the bilions and billions we spend on the war on drugs.
and then, every time the government wants to put someone in prison for a drug crime, figure out the cost and send the bill to each taxpayer with an explanation about what the guy did, what the sentence will be and how much they owe to pay for it. go in alphabetical order and send a bill saying joe smith got arrested for possession of crack and the state wants to put him in jail for 12 months and it will cost $35,000 to do that and here's the bill.
i wonder how enthusiastic people would be about our criminal justice system if they had to pay for it out of pocket. it's really no different than what we do now, it's just that people are not smart enough to understand how they are getting fucked.

and post #26 is why i could never be a rightwinger- because i am not in favor of big, huge, infinite government, even when it would benefit my position (at least in theory)

As a conservative leaning independent myself the 21st century history of GOP/rightwing has been about big government and reckless spending. Really hard for me as a conservative leaning person to side with.
But Dirt the reason that you drive right wingers bananas is that you bring up the theocratic dictatorship that the GOP/rightwing uses to have their voting base mindlessly follow them on like a religion. And when this blind faith way of thinking is brought to the light of day the panic sets in.
You remember there was so much focus insisting that the "election was about the economy" mainly because they knew that there was no way Romney and the GOP would win over the independents and libertarian voters with their consistent agenda to do away with the principle of separation of church and state that the founding father fought so hard to give us.
Because they knew that a monarchy is often in bed with religion and theocracy to keep power and the separation of church and state would help ensure that would happen along with the 2nd ammendent.
That is why I can never understand right wingers tht talk so much about the 2nd ammendent to protect ourselves yet are completely hell bent of pissing of the our forefather's idea of separation of church and state which is designed to protect us on the exact same totalitarian/monarchy rule that gain power through mixing religion and government.

lord, i hope jesus will forgive me that my grammatical style, particular to covers, prevents me from capitalizing his or most other names except for the occasional fellow poster. jesus, if you're watching, no disrespect.
as to your other comment, i do see a relationship between jesus and healthgcare to the extent that i would think jesus would be interested in the poor, the elderly, the young, the sick and the vulnerable getting basic healthcare and less interested in insurance companies making billions interjecting themselves into the medical system and politicians playing politics with access to basic healthcare. maybe i'm wrong about that.

i know how much you like to point blame towards the church and organized religions adverse affects on our society, and i certainly think their line of sexual repression plays a role. the most violent societies are the most sexually repressed, and id wager all these young males that shoot up large swaths of fellow innocents have one thing in common, and thats they arent getting laid and were probably all virgins. think about your mood and temperment when youre on a cold streak, as compared to when youre getting sucked and fucked more times a day than you know what to do with.
what i dont understand is why these unic outcasts always go to a schoolyard, why not at least go out with a purpose and go to some state building and unleash your fury on the true criminal element of oppression? not that im advocating any violence, but still, it begs the question why arent there more mass shootings of the worst of what society has to offer?
look at manti teo. you see the lengths happy people have to go to cover up their homosexuality when they are repressed by religion? you see how fucked up this kid is now from this garbage? if people just got laid, by whichever sex they like, this world would be a much better and more normal place.

I wonder if Jesus said that his name must be capitalized or you are going to hell... Im sure bible beaters would tell you that it is in the bible somewhere therefore it must be the law of the land imposed on everyone in a totalitarian/theocratic/dictatorship...
I agree with you about jesus healing the sick and having compassion for the poor and elderly... but perhaps he did not mean that government should require to follow the mantra of "what would jesus do?" or require that everyone contribute to helping others if they do not have christian morals and values...
people should have the right to do the complete opposite of "what Jesus would do" or Christian morals and values...
another interesting fact is that with the shooting and need for God and spirituality... we do not see faith based organizations coming out and making any statements or offers to help from a Christian perspective...
The only faith based organization I have heard of was the westboro group saying that God has unleashed his wrath upon kindergarden children... and so far that is the only real christian perspective out there so far...

this is the politics forum. one of the best things about being an american, is supposed to be freedom from religion, so please respect my americanness and keep the quibbling over fictitious old folklore in the general claptrap forum.
How about you respect others when it comes to having faith in a religion.
No one is imposing their religious views on you.
We've been down this road as you are so staunchly opposed to religion for whatever reason.
Clubdirt couldn't be more spot on, Jesus, would have grossly supported these measures in helping the poor of a civilized society who can't provide for themselves. And for you to denigrate religion as you often do with churches and you pathetic attempt to slander nonprofits too, you must be insecure with yourself.

plenty of good seats still available on the Church of ClubDirt bus to salvation
but your church allows drinking? and gambling? and who knows what else?
I thought that the church/religion is supposed to intrusively dictate how everyone lives their life and desecrate the separation of church and state by fusing religion with government, basically making america in to Iran...
perhaps this is a church that we can all get behind...

how is flushing billions of dollars down the drain a year with this reckless and senseless spending make any sense?
and how can so called conservatives not be against these blanks checks written n the name of bigger government with police, courts and prison?
I like your idea of making criminals pay for it... but I think that if they dont have the money how will they be able to pay for it all? and what would they do if they cant pay for it?
The war on drugs would prefer to engage "criminal justice welfare" and keep printing those government checks...
I mean seriously... what country has as many incarcerated and spends spends spends as much public/taxpayer money on a "war on drugs"?
