Committee, replacing veteran lawmaker and Detroit-ally Rep. John
Dingell. The 137 to 122 vote by Democratic lawmakers on Thursday marks
a significant shift in congressional leadership, and opens the door to
stronger environmental standards for the auto industry. Dingell, a
staunch supporter of the U.S. auto industry, has successfully blocked
tighter regulations for carbon emmission standards -------------- so we are probably going to bailout the autos in january and then we're going to sic Waxman on them to improve environmental standards as well?

NO - just once again. I made a killing shorting alternative (green) stocks in 2000-2001. They were a big bubble then, and will be bigger this time around.

It really cannot work quite like that though.... The industry will have to stay alive at some level, even if on life support. Yes reorganization and new ownership (hopefully killing off the UAW), but most importantly keeping the industry going.
All the major changes that need to be made can be done like that, but not with the industry goins away for a year. Way too much fallout for that to happen (supply base, etc). There are assembly plants all over the midwest and the south that are the primary economy for these mid-sized communities. Many of them will go away, but hopefully not too many. This is NOT just a Detroit issue.
I would like to see the key design guys stay on. Automotive guys know what I'm talking about. A GM should be a GM product. It's different from a Ford or a Mopar.

Wind and Solar are still viable sources of renewable energy. And they will only become more efficient as time goes on.
On a side note: My old man is having a geothermal heating system installed currently. And the system works well as it creates heat in winter and acts as an air conditioner in the summer. (Essentially with a heat pump.) Very cool investment. I look forward to seeing how well it works.

Anyone who got suckered into that ethanol hype clearly has no idea what they are talking about.
Wind and Solar are still viable sources of renewable energy. And they will only become more efficient as time goes on.

How the hell has oil dropped to the 40's from 150 in july. That is flat out amazing. I would bet that the world is still using over 100 million barrels of oil a day just like it was doing in july.
Also with all the stocks dropping like rocks, who are the actual people making this money? I mean somebody has got to be pocketing this money.

nascar - i only compared b/c all 3 are supported by government subsidies or tax credits. they arent viable on their own or they would be
cd - there are very few people making money. either you are all cash, short stock, or long short ETFs...thats it and i dont understand bonds enough to explain how to make money there

My old man has currently spent under 8 Grand. That includes the digging. Mind you this is for a 1 story house with a basement. Not sure on the square footage.
