President Barack Obama says gun-control advocates should be better listeners in the debate over firearms in America.
In an interview with The New Republic, Obama says he has "a profound respect" for the tradition of hunting that dates back for generations.
"And I think those who dismiss that out of hand make a big mistake. Part of being able to move this forward is understanding the reality of guns in urban areas are very different from the realities of guns in rural areas," he says.
On June 20th [2000], I was pleased to announce that the City of New York filed a lawsuit against two dozen major gun manufacturers and distributors. This is an industry which profits from the suffering of innocent people. The lawsuit is intended to end the free pass that the gun industry has enjoyed for a very long time, which has resulted in too many avoidable deaths. -

Well let me correct the President cause its obvious he had no clue what the second amendment was about.
The right to bear arms wasnt for hunting or sports purposes. It was for people to have arms in case its govt turned on the people, thus giving them the ability to fight back. So if a ak47 is needed to fight back then so be it.
Kind of surprised you being a lawyer would post this. I sure hope this isnt you agreeing with the worst President in our history.

Lastly who cares what Ronnies opinion of guns are. The country has a Constitution we follow and he didnt write it. If it needs to be changed, then the people need to change it, not any one person should be able to change it.
Its the "WILL OF THE PEOPLE" which some of you just seem to blow off as meaning nothing, because it disagrees with your own beliefs. In a truly free country, the people should decide if our Constitution should be changed. If the people say no guns, then so be it.
This shouldnt be what Obama, Cuomo, Reid, Pelossi or any other politician wants to do.
Politicians are voted into office to defend the Constitution how it stands right now. They arent voted into office to change that piece of paper because of their own beliefs and a lot of people here dont get that.

I actually agree that gun control advocates need to articulate a concise and clear definition of assault weapon if they are seeking to have any sort of restriction.
As to the second point, and you know this, necessity absolutely figures into the equation of restrictions on fundmental rights under intermediate or strict scrutiny.
