The issue, bowlslit, is that the free enterprise society we profess to have is NOT REALLY A FREE MARKET. AT ALL. It is completely lopsided and the playing field is nowhere near level.
This is coming from a six-figure earner that hasn't collected a paycheck in years...I am in business for myself, and I'm still well aware of the fact that most business is bullshit.
Now my family isn't rich, but I was lucky enough to go to a school from K-12 that costs 25k/year and represents one of the best schools in the nation. Our family was on financial aid to this school the entire time I was there and they never spent more than 2k in any year I attended. I also wasn't given a cent for college, a car, any of that luxury crap.
But the things that were taught to me, simply being a part of an affluent community (via my classmates and their parents lifestyles and growing up with them) were COMPLETELY priceless. I would not be in the position I were in if I didn't have great role models early in life.
This is what I think your problem is, Bowl. I think that you have a clouded reality and you think that just because someone is alive in the US, they have all kinds of opportunity. The fact is, most people don't even know what to do because they don't have the proper role models or educational influences to get a good grip on life. They, as a group, won't achieve as much because they aren't told that they can achieve, they aren't 'bred' for achievement.
This isn't their fault, and I think it is pompous and ignorant to assume that it is.
I would say it starts with parenting....they set bad examples and a kid follows suit. Good examples and a good head on their shoulders and the USA presents itself to them as the land of opportunity that it is.
You are a business owner so you should know that opportunities do abound.....forget the big corporations its the small businesses that employee 80% of ppl in this country.
