Oh, one more profound tax thought.....
 
I suggest we completely eliminate all military spending.  Screw National Security, who cares?  Do you think Russia wants to occupy us?  Heck no.  Nobody can manage US citizens and nobody wants to even try.
 
With all that money, we give half to the elderly.  We build them extravagant temples.  The other half, we save for a rainy day or lower taxes.

We can scale back military plenty, but not eliminate it.  Russia I'm not worried about because we're keeping an eye on them from Alaska.

Wall, SS is insurance as stated in the SS program. Google Social Security. Intended to supplement retirement. Mine is $1458/mo and the wifes is $708/mo. You say SS was not intended to be your total retirement. I agree and if the Government had kept their hands off of it, there would be plenty. I'll have to live to 78 to get back what I put in, How many men make it that long. And yes, I go to the VA hospital as part of my benefits, if not my health ins. would be $1600/mo. at my age. The wifes is $990/mo.

I guess, all in all, I've got alot to be thankful for being I started out shining shoes at 11.

FICA tax

SS covers more than your "retirement" privilages, it also covers disability and other items.

You can use obscure references from the original verbage, but anything you pay to the govermnet taken from wages is a tax, and FICA is a tax.

SS is a messed up system, people dont understand it is a TAX, nor that it covers other items like disability. Like you most people count how much they put in and think it accrues with interest and that the FULL amount is what they have coming, neither is true.

No tax paid to the government has a guarantee to be returned.

I hope you enjoyed the last 20 years with the prosperity and growth because most people did not save enough and spent more than they should and relied upon the SS system to save them.

I personally think the SS system acts like a crutch and people retire earlier than they should, rather than accruing net worth and assets to cover retirement and not rely on our government to provide for them (socialism).

The program was created because at the TIME there was no retirement system in place..no 401k or pension or IRA. Well now there is and people still have not planned properly, the SS system really serves a negative purpose and should be reformed to accurately give benefits to those deserving..like below the median income of the PAYING employee who pays your SS tab.

out the bastards who don't know how to read a credit app.
they can pay the deserving their Social Security.
 
If you want to save this country $$$, do away with WELFARE.

$750 large is the "starting point"...... actual numbers will be much larger

ApacheM, stop worrying about welfare, it is meaningless and immaterial.  Those are very small numbers.
