I would never hide out from anything.
I served 2 years....USNG,, re-enlisted 3 years US ARMY total of 5 years. 1959-1964 ..
I have 2 Honorable Discharges.
I got married (to my present wife of 48 years,) upon discharge and went back to school.
Viet Nam war began later that year August 1964. So I did not serve in Nam. The Pres. Johnson build-up of 500,000 troops began in 1965.
My brother was not drafted either, he volunteered and served in Viet Nam 1966-1969 but he will not talk about it, and will not even display a veteran license tag, he says that's not something he would wear on his sleeve.
My Father served on ship World War 11, was drafted in Navy 1942-1945. He had 3 children. At that time they drafted those without children first, the more you had, the further down your name would be on the list. I have his honorable discharge, and his casket flag on display in my home.
My Nephew served proudly in U.S. Marines 2008-2012
My Niece serving U.S Army from 2009---she is still serving proudly.
They are not hero's, the real war hero's are buried in military graves, and others graves, in Normandy and in other countries. But we served proudly.
Those who made it back home are blessed.
Now you and others who have not served at all or served in some capacity, can still volunteer to go to Afganistan. If not, do not speak about my service. Look in the mirror.
Hey DonJuan:
Your service is not the question....however, it is troubling that with the life experiences you have had in the military, that you are in complete agreement and support of this gun grab by the Feds.
Strange. I can't understand it.
Your attempt to make a gun rights advocate equivalent to being anti-child is irresponsible. Again, it is very surprising that a person of your experience and age would push such a morally bankrupt arguement.
Do you honestly see how bad of a foul it is to use a national tragedy involving young kids to further your side of a political agenda that has been hotly debated for the passed 25 years? To use Sandy Hook in an attempt demonize gun owners is irresponsible. It disrespects the victims, families, and insults the collective intelligence of the country as a whole.
Whatever. Like I said before, people like you and I will never see eye to eye on this one. I find that people whom lived in the 1960's developed their life long politics there....they either fall on the far left with the hippies, or they fall on the right representing the same ideology as their fathers.
I wasn't around then. But my dad was. He was drafted and served 18 months in Vietnam. He left there with a bad taste in his mouth from what he saw and experienced. The taste got worse when he saw what happened to the entire country of Vietnam when the US abruptly pulled out.
From a young age I was taught to use firearms to hunt and for personal protection....and I was also taught that politicians do what is in their best interests, not what is in the citizens' best interest.
However, I do agree with you that the real heroes are buried in places like Normandy and Arlington...or buried in the rice patties southeast of Vuhgnro Bay.
Good luck in putting all of your trust in the Feds. And good luck with your picks.
Never Make A Winner A Loser. Never.
