Legalize it!
I used to smoke a hell of a lot of herb but haven't touched the stuff in over a year. It would choke off some of the funding for criminal gangs, would raise a lot of much needed tax revenue, increase legitimate commerce, lessen the strain on our judicial system and make it much easier for those who have problems with this drug to find help.
You know how many weed-only fueled fights, victim crimes and O.D.'s I saw in my 13 years of regular to heavy use of the Ganj? Zero. How many from alcohol only? Too numerous to count. The biggest dangers from weed are weight gain and job-surfing.
Excess weight can be taken care of especially when the stoner finds out how fun it is to ski, bike and hike with a happy headbuzz.
The pothead friends of mine that all went through the job-surfing phase have, after years of searching, ended up finding something they actually love to do. Graphic designers, carpenters, filmmakers, computer techs, pizza shop owners, environmental law, daycare providers, skiing pro. Good and responsible people. They don't smoke much, if any, MJ these days and if they do it is an afterwork/weekend treat. All that is except for a graphic designer, the skier and a website developer, they have been known to partake at work. The designer got a promotion 2 months ago.
The Demon Weed is a weakass but happy drug. Yes it can be used to the point that it is detrimental but so can french fries and TV. What do you think has caused more problems, gambling or wacky tobaccy?
Alcohol is the true gateway drug. Just think of all of the stupid-funny and stupid-bad things you or those close to you have done. Was alcohol the major contributor to any of those? I banged a 250 lb girl once while stoned, that's the worst I can think of blaming on weed. She was good though and I wore my jimmy hat so it wasn't as bad as it sounds. I drove in a blackout at 16, started 2 fights, broken stuff and stole a bike and a leather jacket many years ago all while just drunk. Not proud of it, I'm just sharing.
Lumping cheeba in with the horrors of meth is a waste of money and a disservice to our citizens. Legalize it, regulate it, tax it and sell it next to the Cheetos.
