Ianastasis, the point of the thread I believe is Obama is close to becoming the President of the United States and few people know much about him.
 
We really need to know what he really thinks ( who & what influences his thoughts)  and if his judgement about issues are sound enough to lead this Nation.........
 
Their are important question being brought up at this time that need firm answers.........

Should Obama not have said that? Sure, but only because he should have foreseen the consequences.

I think we should all be free to say what we honestly think and that we should disarm our bigotry alarm systems in preparation for rhetoric that truly is hateful.

This reminds of me of that Air Force football coach a couple of years ago who got publicly admonished for saying his team was struggling because it didn't recruit blacks well. I say, what was wrong with saying this? I am personally white, but I will debate anyone that blacks are naturally more athletic than whites just like Asians as a whole are better at math than whites, etc. Why do we go nuts when someone simply mentions race without examining the context? We are a bullshit hypersensitive society that fails to put perspective to real life situations.

Oh, another stupid political correctness example: When Shaq was asked about Yao Ming and he made a crack at the way he talks in Chinese, all in good fun not meaning any harm. Then Shaq was slammed for it. Shaq is not racist. He is not doing anything all of us have probably not done at some point.

I hate this part of our society. Everyone should loosen up so we can get angry when it counts.

Sarasota, I respect your take.

I just think this thread boils down to the bigger picture about political incorrectness and I wanted to address this. We are too sensitive about any topic that even addresses race. Our hair sticks up on our heads and we scurry to the woodshed to get an axe to behead whoever says anything that mentions race. This is idiotic and close-minded behavior.

If we cannot talk about race openly and honestly (minus true hate speech) how do we expect to ever make progress?

You must have a very hard time seeing the big picture. Everyone is getting riled up in this preacher thing now but it will all die down by November. It's already peaked in negativity.

So either Barack or Hillary wins and then all this bullshit dies down and we get down to the issues. War vs. Anti war. Rhetoric to stop illegal immigration vs. track record of doing nothing to stop it, etc.

And, when this happens, and I don't know how many times to repeat this, America will not elect McBush.

Please call me out on Covers if I am wrong. Let's make an avatar bet right now or something. There is no burning chance in hell McBush becomes president and betting against him getting it might be the easiest bet you could ever make.

I agree there shouldn't be that double standard. My take is that we realize this isn't hate speech and chill out whether it's a black referencing whites or a white referencing blacks, I don't care.

  I don't hate Any Bears Kujay I am reading  a book now "The Animal Dialogues" where these hunters finished stripping the fur loose from bear ,exposing a pale ,pink corpse,they covered their mouths with fear ,because beneath the fur the bear looked human. They never killed a bear again.
 
Polar Bears are are not going extinct I told you before some of them are just going down to Colorado for a while.......till things chill-up some more....

Ianastasis, until blacks stop looking down at every thing that they precieve as White as being bad nothing will ever change.
 
American black kids look down on education, they tease the black kids who are doing well school and say they are acting white. ...
 
I have many Asians in my area and they all have first names like Beverly,Jane, Sharron.etc. they are not trying to be against American society but part of it........
 
If a Black person try's to assimulate into White American society Blacks call them Coconuts ( Black on the out side and white on the inside.....)
 
This is the reason Black society did not support Obama at first he was considered as an African more than as a American Black.
 
But once Bill Clinton attacked him for being a Black person. The Blacks then felt that he wasn't part of the White System and ran to protect him and support him,because they felt they( Blacks ) were being attacked..by White society.....the enemy.  
 
Africans in American Black society are precieved by American Blacks as acting more educated and adopting to the White society................acting White .. That is why Blacks like Condoleezza Rice ,Colon Powell .J.C.Watts ,and Lynn Swann are not looked upto or emulated by more Blacks ..........because they are thought of as acting White..................don't speak ghetto ..........Coconuts.

Sarasota, these all are all great points that I agree with.

I would hope that these would be issues we can discuss publicly sans fear of politcal correctness reprisal. But the sad thing about our society is that only blacks like Bill Cosby and Oprah could make these kind of allegations publicly and not be ostracized for bringing it up.

Whites, blacks, whoever should be able to discuss these things. But if I'm a lead official at the Department of Education and I make a comment about how Asians are better at math and technology than whites, I get fired immediately. This is messed up.

I try to stay away from name calling. It cheapens the discussion and shows a persons insecurity with their position. Unfortunately I'm not always successful. But I do at least try.

A racist running for President?
 
While the passport issue is VERY important, we don't know who did it, or why.
If the White House / Bush / McCain is behind it, they should be prosecuted / impeached / step down from their position as Senator, but, if not....the people should be fired, and prosecuted.
 
Meanwhile Obama should have to resign, since he is obviously racist and things that there is such a thing as "typical white behavior "

if a white presidential candidate on record calling the white equivalent of pastor wright a great leader is making "typical black person" remarks about negative traits, then people would say we have a racist running for president.  and few would want to go on record disputing that in this day and age.
 
if a black person like obama makes the same remark about white people, in a world where we all consider ourselves equally accountable for words and actions, we still have a racist running for president.  otherwise, we just have a double standard.  if the former, it's bad for the country.  if the latter, it's bad for the black community. 
 
that being said, i think we don't have a racist running for president but a deeply ingrained double standard, which is devastatingly unfortunate for the blakc community.

Typical white person when speaking of his grandma?  Typical that she took care of her grandson after his biological father took off, and his mother was unwilling or unable to raise him.   Could he say his biological father was a "typical" black man by knocking up a woman and then skipping town and not taking care of his responsibility?  Oh no that is politically incorrect and racist.

I don't consider Obama racist for saying "typical white person" any more than I wouldn't consider a white leader saying "typical black person" racist as long as it's not in a hateful context.

But we are so preconditioned to admonish people who even mention something like this that we can't even examine the context and judge objectively. We need to loosen up as a nation. Please.

This is too funny! Try saying "A Typical Black Person" in mixed company and see if your not branded a Racist?? I hope your not serious.

 

I wonder why Obama grandmother & Jesse Jackson equally fear young black males? It couldn't be that they are ones who commit most of the violent crimes. That would be too logical. I believe that when 14% of a population commit over 50% of the violent crimes (murder, armed robbery etc:) it is reasonable to have more fear of that group of individuals. But of course that would make me a Racist. Ask any liberal for confirmation of this fact.
