Poker book question

Just bought Skalansky's book on Hold em for advanced players, wanted to try and step the game up a litlle. I read his first book and learned a great deal from it, here is the question.

 

He says in the introduction that it is a book for a fixed limit 40-80 game. I never play limit poker.

 

Has anyone read this book? and if you have does it translate to NL well enough to learn its contents? I  could care less about the $30 and I love to read, so its not a lazy or cheap thing. I just dont want to clutter my mind with systems or plays that will damage my mental game.
