in his 2004 book, "My Prison Without Bars," that Rose would admit he bet not only on baseball, but on the Reds....it appears he wasn't as good at gambling..as he was at hitting the ball.

An official investigation into Rose.. noted Rose lost $450,000 in a three-month span in 1987

With the inside info he had it's hard to fathom how he managed to lose as much and often as he did.

Cause he only bet on himself, never against. He never "threw" a game. Hence why he hustled like a maniac.

 I do not know how he bet but my guess is he never bet on the Reds to lose imo, just seems to go against the way he played.

He only played one way ...for his team (Reds) to win...

 As a Giants fan did not like him but as a player he was a game changer.  Over 4000 hits which never happens again should of been HOF, but we gamble so we do not think of it as those that do not if there is anyone left that does not gamble.

 I saw a documentary on the matter. I believe it to be the case, the dude would only bet on himself. 

No matter the odds, and we all know how tough it is to win a game of baseball. One man can only do so much.

I think it rather admirable rather than frowned upon, the way he did it. He only hurt his own bank account in the end.

 As Slim said it was the way he played, always to win even in an All Star game, which was a bit over the top.
