Most of these guys have gotten destroyed much like you. Therefore you are in good company.

The best advice I could give you is to wait a couple more days until I release my one time NCAA tournament GOY. I've never lost this game (even before I started posting on covers), and personally make a trip to Vegas each year just to dump more money on this game.

Hang tight and then beg, borrow and steal as much money as you can get your hands on and pound this game once I release it on covers.
This is my gift to covers.com so once you win this game, take the money and enjoy.

It's not easy to walk away, if you still have money you want the action .If you put your mind to do it, you can, you need to be very, very strong .I hope that you do it. Dont  pay attention to some of these jerks on here.

It takes a lot of losing to become a sports gambler that has a chance.  Unfortunately this is the tuition to be paid.

Some shoot their wad and never reach the point where they have a chance.  Most never master all the skills necessary to make this a profitable venture.  Whether this dude lost his trust fund or his checking account from Burger King job, it is a lesson to all.  Yeah, you might get lucky and walk in and win a few big bets right off the bat.

But if your are basically guessing, and you have no angle, and you have no experience getting arse-reamed by the boys in Vegas, you are going to flame out.

I am middle aged.  Have been sports gambling all my life.  I still haven't mastered it - much better than I ever was, but still struggle with the most important skill - patience and money management.  And I still struggle with listening to what my gut is telling me from time to time.

People think this chit is easy money have another thing coming.  You have to pay your dues just like anything else in life.  `How much you choose to pay will determine if your life will even be worth living.

I would never encourage anybody to do this.  Especially if they did not earn the money they are spending themselves.

There is a book I read about 10 years ago or so that changed my gambling life.  The book is called Winning at Casino Gambling by the late Lyle Stuart.  Granted the book was not written about sports gambling, but this old time gambler tells entertaining stories throughout the book full of insight and knowledge that could only be gained from a lifetime of gambling experience.

Stuart was a REAL gambler.  And while he does tend to self-glorify some of his exploits, his words of wisdom are pure gold for any gambler.  It really opened my eyes and changed the direction of my gambling career.  I once had 21 successive winning trips to the casino - and I owe that streak all to the principles in the book.

Like I said, it is not really a sports gambling book at all, but there is enough gambling philosophy in there to help anybody that lays his money down.  I highly recommend the book, it is great reading for anybody that has ever laid down a bet.

unfortunatley there is no such thing as dues paid in gambling to get better at it and to make money at doing this....bookies and offshore places know its rigged in there favor....the only time they ever panicked was when a sport was going on strike and they where losing money because theres no games ...as long as the seasons go by and theres football basketball baseball and hockey,,,soccer etc there happy....paying your dues but still gambling is a addict speaking...money management and patience doesnt win games for you...this is a matter of wins and losses and it will always be rigged against you as long as you bet...like a old time bookie once told me...money management and patience just means he has to wait longer to get your whole wad

And the author of the book I mentioned starts out telling you that he and you are fools.  That the game can't be beat.  And you shouldn't gamble.  After that he proceeds to tell you how to survive if you do.

He particularly detests sports gambling - and horse betting.  Claims putting your money on anything that breathes is a mistake.
But what you learn over time is exactly what you are talking about.  Once you understand the game, the manipulation, the patterns that repeat themselves over and over again, I contend you do have a chance.  I am a don't player in dice, and I always try to figure out what the boys in the books are trying to lure me into.

I don't know if the game can be beat or not.  If you win all your big bets and only lose little ones, you certainly have a chance.

gambling rigged because of whats called the 50 percent theory...every game is 50-50 and even if you think your a great bettor or a great tout that can give you the better games with bad lines it still all evens out over time...and we know this by seeing all these touts suck as a good example....some get hot but will eventually get cold and get to 50 percent at best...so the more game you bet in a day...in a week... in a month,..   a year... and your life hitting 50 percent...your going to lose the vig...even if you bet more dogs the fiqure mathematically evens out over time,,,so more games you bet going 50 percent in your life the more money you lose in your life...rigged against you

I hate to say it but the only way to survive is to keep plugging. You need to get a decent stack -1/5 of what you need to win and wait on a good two team parlay. I'd go with Maryland and smu. Then double up and take a break.

Could you give us your picks for the first round of the tournament before you take off?

go back and pick any game you won or lost (assume basketball) - and ask yourself a few questions:

    1. What was the opening line

    2. How many assists/turnovers did the road team have as well as the home team.

    3. What was each team's shooting percentage def.

    4. What was the rank and schedule strength of each team

    5. Record the results and use it to handicap future games.

    6. If you are simply looking at the line and making bets on your internal knowledge - without comparing future games with historical results - you are gambling and based on the Kelly formula - if you have no edge - don't bet.

    7. Sounds like you bet based on gut feel - I've been there done that - you can't win long term based on gut feel.  Put the time in to come up with something that you believe will result in winners and test it out - if it proves worthy then invest your hard earned dolllars on it.

You need to read Delinio349's post in penalty box.  You both need help.  Your just like him no money management and lousy picks.  I could go 1-6 and still make money.  You have to have discipline!!!!!!!!

I might be able to have Dr. Phil take both of you the same time.  PM me your name and address.

I sound like a tout because I spoke of money management?  Explain that to me.  As far as the emotions getting the better  of people when they wage I was referring to times when one may lose by a hook or some fluke and they chase by doubling up their next play or get hot and let it ride, and lose, that sort of thing.
