This Historic Transaction MORE THAN DOUBLES American Oil Reserves, greatly increases our Oil Supply, and will substantially lower Gas Prices for all Americans, long into the future, while helping to continue to set Venezuela on a course toward Tremendous Success and Great Prosperity.
They absolutely have the refining capacity for that oil. Several of the GC refineries were designed specifically for the heavy crude from Venezuela. They could easily absorb 250,000 additional barrels a day, maybe upwards of 400,000 barrels a day.
The issue is the lack of updates in Venezuela and the degradation of the whole system there. That will take some years to get their production and transportation system up to where it needs to be.

A lot of things in there that are true but a lot that are speculation and rhetoric.
It’s gonna take time & $ to Increase Venezuela Oil extraction, transportation, & refinement!
Yes, I pointed out in the post above that it would take some years to get it up to speed.
Obviously, the USA will bring expertise, equipment, and capital to get it going.
It is also not the case of building from scratch. A lot of their stuff has been degraded through neglect and needs restoring and other parts needs upgradiing. They have an existing infrastructure base. So, in that sense it is the biggest advantage of the USA getting involved. So, it would not be the USA coming in and taking the Venezuelan oil. It should look more along the lines of USA capital plus USA expertise and Venezuelan resources plus Venezuelan workers equaling a better environment for their folks and the western hemisphere.
And the Venezuelan people could rise against this USA partnership if USA does not Manage this properly!
It is speculative at this point if the folks would react one way or the other. If they perceive the USA and Venezuelan elites taking the oil while ordinary folks get little -- then yes that could be an issue.
But if they see it as providing jobs, wages improving, their electricity staying on, and better and steadier government services -- then they will be happy to get back to the great country they once were.

I have talked about this before. This is who I worked with out of university for several years and I spent a lot of time in South America and specifically in Venezuela. I can only speak about the folks I directly was in contact with and knew of at the time. None of them I knew were 'hanging' with them or 'convinced' them to get into mining. Certainly there were actions with the cartels and there are always illegal activities overlapped in the illegal mining. But I would have to see some sort of solid evidence about them recruiting traffickers into the mining.
For sure, I can say that when there is a lot of money involved and 'shady' folks involved. But this is not factual as stated. It would need specific people and companies cited.
But combining different stories about Venezuelan drug trafficking, illegal gold mining, Venezuelan government corruption, U.S. intelligence operations, and oil sanctions all into one narrative is too simplistic and would need corroborative evidence.
Since I got involved in oil and energy in the last several years I have been there many times again. They are proposing allowing foreign and private rare-earth-element companies to be exploited along with gold and possibly diamonds. So, I have been there on a couple of those projects and talks about them.
There is a great opportunity there for development and exploration and some of these mining companies and a few smaller startups are gearing up for this.
We did this to Iran in 1953 over Oil.
There is validity to this. They supported the overthrow of Mosaddegh after he nationalized Iran's oil industry. But you cannot look at it in isolation. This also had Cold War concerns, worry over communist influence, Mosaddegh's political issues with Shah, etc. But for sure, oil was a major factor and certainly the CIA headed up Operation Ajax to overthrow him. But saying just oil leaves out significant context.
I would also add that even if that incident is granted it does not translate to necessarily saying it would always be the case the next time in another continent and decades later with very different underlying political and economic concerns.

Thisnis reasonable to say but too absolute. Decades removed do they folks too young to have been alive hold to only this as the reason. 1979 Revolution, hostage crisis, US sanctions, Iran's propaganda to their people, regional conflicts -- all play a part.
But again -- different folks, culture, times, politics, etc. does not mean the next set up folks would hate the USA. You can see some semblance of 'appreciation' of various overthrows. Whether it was Mosaddegh or Maduro. It is only when the next leader becomes dictatorial, corrupt, or the country falls apart that they folks look at the USA as a source to blame for all other woes.

There is something that can be said for this for sure. But some is hyperbole and opinion and not supported by data.
The United States represents perhaps the greatest paradox in the eyes of the world: it is the most feared country on the planet, while also being the most popular nation that people aspire to live in outside their own.
For example, I always use this one to demonstrate this:

But the U.S. is viewed as more than just a bully on the world stage. When asked which country they would most like to live in, 9% of respondents picked the U.S. Australia and Canada came in second (7%), followed by Switzerland (6%), France, Germany and the United Kingdom at 4%.
Who did they ask for this ? That is bullcrap - for starters Switzerland is basically impossible to move to unless you are an EU citizen or have a work permit (outside the Nordic countries - it is the hardest country to enter on the European continent) so that is just people mentioning countries off of their heads (having no concept of the countries mentioned)

It is not asking which countries they could legally immigrate to; it is asking which country they would like to live in. Those are two different questions.
By your logic, nobody could say Switzerland because they aren't eligible for Swiss residency—which obviously makes no sense. People can prefer living somewhere without having the legal ability to move there.
But what is the point of asking - if stuff like that isn’t taking into consideration ? I would personally like to live in Neverland (Peter Pan) - that would have more or less the same chance of happening as you moving to Switzerland even though it was your biggest wish in the world ! Unless you have a work permit - and at that point of course you would move (if you had gone through the problems of getting one)
