I agree it's time for Ricky to go. He looks slow, age has simply caught up with him.
However, he can't be blamed for the recent pathetic showing of this team. It was clear in his last years as captain he didn't get the team that he wanted. Perhaps Clarke now, as a selector, will have more luck in that regard.
Ponting, along with Lara and Tendulkar, are the greatest batsmen of this generation, and for that he needs some respect.
Even if it's a tap on the shoulder, I don't think he deserves to be dropped.
Pushed maybe, but not dropped.

amazing how the pot bellied golden budha hasn't really missed a beat in terms of his form despite being older than Ponting
