If u have the number 8 and 9 in and they are gettinjg boundaries off edges, why keep the 3rd man and fine leg up in the circle?

If u are gonna be beaten, dont try and make the batsman beat u with good cricket shots, not flukey edges?

I still cannot get over why the man was on the fence when they needed to defend 1 run off 1 ball......

Give me one VALID REASON, 1 VALID REASON, 1 VALID REASON why u would have a man right on the fence at square leg with the number 9 facing and the team needs 1 run off 1 ball?

Furthermore, all the other fielders were right on the circle.....?

Yep, they had the 8 and 9 in for the last 3 overs, needing 30 runs.....they got 4 boundaries off edges, yet Bailey get the fine leg and 3rd man in the circle..........Siddle hadnt hit one ball hard square of the wicket or straight, yet he keeps the 3rd man and fine leg up in the circle.........Crooked bastard

Maybe just an oversight on his part. I imagine lot of things are running through a captain's head in such a tight situation. Decision making is generally not very clear. It's not like Bailey is an experienced captain either.

If you didnt know there was huge huge money on a cows penalty goal as the 1st play, the sequence of events in that game look so normal comapred to the 2 examples i used above......

A player drops a ball playing the ball (happens a thousand times in a game), a player gives away a penalty in front of the stciks, happens all the time......

But when u see things that completely irrational, thats when u raise the eye brows

Yes, as a fielding captain one run off one ball I would have everyone in the circle - that's a no brainer regardless.

What I meant, is write a book about fixing and throw in examples. You may turn a few heads and the guys in charge of it all might pay you off ;)

Let's say if that was someone as experienced as Ponting, Graeme Smith or MS Dhoni then you would have to raise an eyebrow.

If you're a fielding captain and the opposition needs one run off one ball, surely the 'natural instinct' has to be to send everyone up. What's the fucking point of leaving square leg on the fence when there is a single there every day if the batsman gets it through that region?

Have everyone up and make them hit it through / over the ring to win. It's not rocket science and the captain of a first class side should really know much better

Agreed, furthermore, if you have number 8 and number 9 batsman at the crease who arent getting good wood on the ball and they have scored 4 boundaries off inside and outsuide edges, why do u still keep the 3rd man and fine leg up in the circle?

If the 8 and 9 batters hit the ball straight or square to the boundary u say, good cricket shots, nithing u can do....but to be beaten by flukey lucky edges?

Some of the biggest WTF BRAINFARTS THAT POSSIBLY COULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED bad beats I have had occurred in cricket.

1. Bring kirk Penney back in the game when u are up by 15 with 1 min 10 left in the game.

2. Having a man on the fence when u are defending 1 run off 1 ball.

3. Dropping the ball 20 metres out of your own line and then giving away a penalty in front of the sticks,...

 

I'll give it a go even though I am convinced myself of the answers;

1) Wasn't Penney recently back for the breakers. Perhaps the coach wanted to give the scrubs some time with him ?

2) Perhaps he thought the batsman would try win it with a six or four, perhaps it was a ploy and the bowler was meant to pitch the ball up ?????

If this is the KFC Big Bash (too lazy to look it up), there is some shenanigans every single year.  I remember there being some bullshit a year or two back where the umpire didn't allow the final two balls to be bowled or someone hit a four with the last ball but they didn't score it.
