Battlers A-League Rd 19

Two games tonight.

 

Would lean Sydney after there impressive thumping of an albeit understrength Adelaide last week, however Wellington have been an entertaining side and at home are no easy beats. They also get captain Ross Aloisi back. No play for me....

 

Biggest game of the season for both clubs as 4th takes on 5th. Jets get Joel Griffiths and Andrew Durante back from suspension, and would be keen to end a 5 game winless steak at home. The Jets looked lost without Griffiths upfront last week going down to 7th placed Wellington. Adelaide have a thousand blokes out through injury, and if the Jets can't win this, at home, to seal a top 4 spot then they don't deserve to play in the finals anyway.  

 

 

Going larger than normal with this so may place a small bet on the draw to hedge. If Adelaide sneak home I'll be screwed.

Jets up 1-0 early, looking good mate

1-0 Jets, after Joel Griffiths gets on the end of a James Holland free kick from about 25 out

 

Sydney win 2-0 to make it a three way tie at the top of table.......

Adelaide equalise after about 40 minutes, after the Jets had about 10 chances to put them away........Jets need to regroup at halftime.

With 5 seconds till halftime, Barbiero collects his second yellow and Adelaide will play the rest of the game with 10 men.......

Jets now feeling sorry for themselves playing against a 10 man Adeliade. They need to gather themselves quickly.......30 minutes to go..

My biggest A-League play of the year, 3 units on the ml and a unit on the DNB.

 

Huge win for the Jets who have all but cemented their spot in the finals......

 

Joint league leaders Qld host Melbourne tonight, but will be without Moore, Tiatto and goalkeeper Liam Reddy. Melbourne found some form last week in smashing CC 5-2, and will be keen to spoil the fun of any top four team they come across for the rest of the season. Although they may appear to have nothing to play for, they do have the Asian Champions League looming, and would no doubt like to build some momentum for that. Allsopp and Thompson both had good games last week and I think will trouble McCloughan and Ognenovski all night. Qld have never led the A-League, and I reckon they could get the wobbles tonight.

Qld have had the majority of possession but otherwise stats are pretty even....

Last game of the round and the Central Coast really must win this to get their season back on track. They have now conceded 10 goals in their last two games, but do get back keeper Danny Vukovic. Aloisi is also trying to become the first person in A-League history to score in 5 consecutive matches.
