I know its very early but wondering if anyone has made any plays for the winner of the AFL? I made a small play on St Kilda before the weekend they were at +500 or 5/1 so I put a unit on it. After their pounding of Collingwood, they are now 3/1.
Anyone else make some plays, maybe on a hopeful long shot?
cheers

Saints are playing well but they won't beat Geelong, they've said as much that they know Geelong is the better team. Anyhow anything can happen on the day as we saw last year, they certainly are playing some great pressure football.

Depends on the venue. Also, I wouldn't trust the Cats' goalkicking with $5. Saints have a very good shot at beating Geelong, especially at Telstra.

I also believe that Geelong is the better team (though not by much.) I just saw a lot of value with the Saints at +500. Unless something major happens (injuries, a losing a couple games in a row.. etc) I dont see the value going back down to +500 anyways.
Cheers for the comments.

Saints won't be back at +500 all season unless they run into a massive string of injuries.
The league is weak this season with a lot of the teams that were supposed to be resurgent flopping (Richmond, Port, etc) and some of the decent teams running into walls (Hawthorn, Carlton, etc).
Hard to see anyone else besides the Cats and Saints right now. Unless the Bulldogs get their shit together...

I think Carlton are 'expected' to be a decent team as they have been expected to be the last few years, always that they are coming. Perhaps they just haven't arrived. Realistically, Carlton haven't actually shown enough yet to be considered a decent team, just that they've got some good players.

What I meant by last comment is that I don't consider Carlton a 'decent' team until they prove that they are. They simply are packed full of priority picks and have Judd, they are yet to really prove themselves. They haven't made finals 8 years and are only in the top 8 at the moment by percentage, where they have three wins but all the teams right down to 14th spot also have three wins. They've lost 4 of last 5 games and some of those losses were very winnable if they were a decent side. Having said that, I think they have a lot of potential and look forward to see them playing good regular football but they are not there yet. I expect them to win this week because Collingwood are a long way short of their best side due to injuries.

if they were playing this weekend i would like st kilda's chances. collingwood has had the most success against geelong by putting them under a lot of pressure. i would say st kilda are applying pressure better than collingwood did in those games.
difficult to say whether they could apply such pressure to geelong, but they have made several decent sides look stupid so far.
even though they play like muppets without strings every second week, port at $30 tempts me.
i like your bet.

Saints will beat the Cats if the Cats don't fix their goalkicking problems. They pounded North, but that hides the fact that they kicking for goal was horrendous.
Saints will make every miss hurt.

Aye. But I used them as one example because, like the Hawks, Carlton should be a no-brainer for the 8, especially this season.
They, suddenly, are not.

Personally I never considered them a no brainer for top 8, would you believe richmond were also $1.60 to make top 8 before the season started? I think anything could happen with top 8 at the moment, Geelong and St.Kilda will clearly make it, I think Doggies and Hawks will do enough to make it but the rest is so open. Even Doggies and Hawks no certainties at the moment. Still not sold on Bombers making it, I think Pies will sneak in as long as they are not plagued with injuries for too long, Port, and two of Brisbane, Sydney, Carlton.
