Greatness...I expect those who have that label to make key plays in pivotal games, unusual plays you can't believe, clutch plays, leadership when it's most needed...Hence I can only consider Toews in that class right now-his team knows over and over he will do something to start of finish a key game let alone be part of the others.. like vs. the Ducks last year in game 5,6,7 and way before..

This is why Peyton Manning is over rated, why he couldn't carry Joe Montana or Tom Brady's cleats, and Gretzky, Messier and true greats delivered...Gretzky almost took a average Kings team to the cup besides all he did otherwise..he lead them past Toronto on the road in game 7 in the Conf Finals and few would have

When did I make fun of Nova Scotia you dyslexic twat. I said he might be biased because Crosby is from Nova Scotia (maybe you don't even know that?)

Gretzky said Toews & Kane are 1 & 2 in the league on the radio before the season started. His opinion is based on who is winning and I have respect for him as a payer but we all know how his coaching career went....he is not going to change my opinion.

This is what bugs me, I mean, wouldn't the greatest player (or even one of the top players in the game) have more than 3 goals in their last 19 playoff games, or be held off the score sheet for 3 games in a row, let alone being limited to one lousy shot on net in one of those games?  Absolutely neutralized by the physicality of the other team(s), any "superstar" or "greatest" player in the game would, or should be able to rise above the adversity, that is what generally makes them "great".

I immediately think of Michael Jordan playing 44 minutes sick as a dog with the flu, and finishing the game with 38 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals and 1 block.  I also think of outstanding playoff performances by Yzerman, Toews, Lemieux, Sakic, Gretzky, and many others in the past, and I find myself having great difficulty putting Crosby into the same category.  If we want to talk size, and overcoming it, then I am much more impressed by players such as Daniel Briere, Theo Fleury, Martin St. Louis, Johnny Gaudreau, or even Cam Atkinson of the Blue Jackets standing all of 5 foot 7.

Hockey is a team sport (Not to mention a physical one), and Crosby has been surrounding by great players and talent his whole career, hence all the accolades.  Throw him into another system/division/conference, especially a defensive-minded one, and we're looking at 50-60 pts a season.

Despite all of the above, I will admit that Crosby does make those around him better.  His offensive awareness cannot be measured in a statistic, unless we are talking EA Sports.

The feeling is mutual.  I myself played a fair bit of hockey, so I completely understand, and see your points. We may not agree who is more valuable or better, but we both agree some great players do not get the respect they deserve.

Your an idiot.  Jordan plays a different sport, and scoring a point every playoff game was much easier to do 30 years ago.

And comparing Crosby vs Towes is a big joke. It's not even close and easy call

Towes is not near even Malkin then what about to say Crosby.

Pitts will win another SC or even 2 with Crosby/Malkin. Chicago won't even make WC for next 20 years

I would say that Kunitz is, or at least was, a top winger. He also adds some grit and space for his linemates. For the most part Crosby has never really played with any top wingers I would agree... except for when he played with Kunitz.

actually Jonathan Toews is probably THE only player that matches Crosby for leaderdhip as a team captain AND he has also won the Conn Smythe in 2010. in addition to that he has THREE Stanley Cups as captain of the Blackhawks AND TWO Olympic Gold Medals with Team Canada. he also won the 2015 Mark Messier Leadership Award which Sidney Crosby had also won in 2010

as for Pitts will win another SC or even 2 with Crosby/Malkin. Chicago won't even make WC for next 20 years then WHY are the Blackhawks 6-1 for the 2016-17 Stanley Cup with the Penguins and Capitals @ 8-1 ???

i agree... however it should be noted that Crosby is also an elite offensive force, which Toews is not. To me Crosby stands alone.

If you're trying to say Crosby makes those around him better... that's quite obvious  If your trying to say that kunitz was not a top winger before he played with Crosby you are wrong.

'I think it might’ve been my first or second year as a pro, and he scored on me from like the hash mark on the wall. Not with a forehand. With a backhand … that beat me far corner. That’s pretty much unheard of. You should stop that 100 out of 100, but he got it off so quick and the puck came in so hot that I didn’t even know it was in the net until his hands were in the air. It was ridiculous.'

'Crosby just does everything so well. When you’re in the locker room before a game, you look at the two or three stars on the other team and you try to figure out how to make them play to their weaknesses. You point to a name on the whiteboard and say, “Alright, he’s not good at X, so let’s force him to do it as much as possible.” There’s not a single part of Crosby’s game that we can take advantage of. He’s simply an all-around unbelievable hockey player.'

'Like I said before, it’s all about multiple options. If Crosby is able to beat his man and get one-on-one with a goalie, it’s just unfair. His blade is almost completely flat, which combined with his ridiculous forearm strength gives him the ability to go forehand to your five hole instantly or turn it over to the backhand and roof it (a lot of guys can’t do this with a flat blade). Sometimes I’ll see him on TV coming down on a goalie and it’s like, Oh boy, here we go. Crosby will be stickhandling it front of him and then he’ll go five hole so fast that it’s like he barely touched the puck. The goalie won’t even react. It’s because he’s frozen. There’s no safe bet. If Crosby goes backhand, the goalie has to push off hard to slide across, so he has no choice but to be deep in his stance with the five hole open. Bad news.'

So true. no question who the best player in past ten years is.

I really hate comparing players from different eras, but if you consider everything.... from the competition at the time, to being a truely complete player.... you could argue that Crosby is the best player that has ever laced up a pair a skates. I personally have always thought Orr was the best all round player, but when you really consider everything, its hard to not put crosby in the mix. And to say he is nit even great? Is the stupidest thing ive ever heard.
