I assume the NHL's M.O. was to avoid the  ''circus'' atmosphere and a potential gong show.

All that trash talking from a player whose team is last in their division and last in their conference lol.  I can't imagine how yappy he'd be if they actually won a game or two.

You can tell Gary Bettman has never played a hockey game in his life The real punishment wouldve been letting Avery play and seeing Phaneuf beat his ass down in front of everybody.
 
I can't believe they are actually suspending him just for talking a little smack. Its not like hes bullsh'tting either, hes just telling the truth

It is fucking embarrassing that the NHL suspended him, holy shit.

The NHL is ran by morons, if this was said in any other sport no one would care what so ever and it would be funny, like T.O. or chad johnson havent done worse in the NFL, come on now.

The truth is Avery is one of the best players in the NHL and if I could pick a "dream team" in the NHL i would take him no later then second pick. He can get under anyones skin and throw anyone off their game, look what he did to Broduer in the playoffs.

Another moron move by the morons that run the worst professional sport in North America.

I agree kellyT. I personally wouldnt take Avery second but I think hes a good player and he does exactly what hes put in to do, which is annoy the other team
 
The fact that Dallas is shocked that he said something stupid makes even less sense, its not like they didnt know what Avery was like before they signed him
 
and the NHL should be happy about his comments, for once the NHL is actually getting some publicity outside of the hockey world

AVERY is making the NHL look bad.

WHY DOES he even need to say a word. HONESTLY.

I don't really give a shit who he bangs. He had no reason to say what he said to the media.

HULL made a big mistake signing him and it looks like it more and more each day. Turco and Richards can't stand the momo.

Players are getting crumpled into the board getting nailed from behind, and the N.H.L. drags their feet.
 
I agree with KELLYT.... NHL is ran by a moron(s).
 
PUCKSRUS...yeah... I think HULL is second guessing his decision to bring Avery on board.  HULL might be getting heat from the ownership group to admit the error....and then move Avery in a trade.  The DALLAS dressing room seems divided too.  Not good!  Add Modano, Morrow, Sydor, & Zubov to the list of guys who can't stand Avery.

I agree league is run by morons but the problem with Avery now is he isnt willing to back anything he does up.  Did you hear Turcos comments?  Not good when your own teammates are saying he better act like man on the ice and not back away.  Maybe 3 years ago Avery was good, now he is nothing more then TO and Chad Johnson a distraction that will only end up hurting his team.

Avery is a disgrace to the NHL. I'm glad they finally took some action in suspending him. That comment was totally uncalled for and it seemed like he rehearsed it in front of a mirror for a few minutes.

Classless player, get rid of him.

I don't understand Scalpers raised Tickets 100% after those comments, everyone was excited to see that game and the the NHL suspends him, Paid double the price for tickets and watched Dallas dump and chase FAC%EN OUTSTANDING!

Every one complains about Avery, but look how much hype his comments made, good or bad publicity is publicity and the NHL needs all the publicity it can get!

Exactly, I don't understand how guys are possibly breaking other players' necks and they get 1 or 3 games, but Bettman will indefinitely suspend somebody for a little chirping
 
i'm a Leafs fan but i'm the first to admit that Hollweg got off waaay to easy with his two hits from behind in consecutive games earlier this season

yeah... HOLLWEG is another deviation of AVERY.  But at least HOLLWEG is willing to drop the mitts. 

Also BETTMAN and Colin Campbell talk about targeting ''repeat offenders''   But yet Chris Pronger has a rap sheet like Dave Schultz.  But Pronger keeps getting 2 & 3 game suspensions. Even that is a double standard.  Pronger had 2 suspensions in one playoff run.  When it comes to disciplinary actions, the NHL is totally out to lunch.

I dunno about you, but I for one would rather have the NHL suspend these fools instead of letting their leagues popularity be run by them.  NFL, MLB and NBA are full of egos and more news is being brought by their tolerance for fuck-ups.  Just look at this past year in the NFL with the Sean Taylor tragedy, Richard Collier, Marvin Harrison,  Plaxico Burress...and the new "doping" scandals.  And thats all in the past year for NFL. 

The NHL has it right this time. 

Bottom line, the comment had NOTHING to do with hockey.  It was out of line.

This is the biggest over reaction I have ever seen.. In any sport.. And just one of the reasons why the NHL is on a never ending downward slope...

I guess Charles Barkley was bad for the NBA, and Jeremy Roenick is bad for the NHL.
