Right-hander Johan Oviedo will get another chance to stick in Pittsburgh's rotation on Wednesday afternoon when he makes his second start of the season for the host Pirates against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Oviedo (0-0, 18.00 ERA) will oppose Toronto right-hander Chris Bassitt (11-6, 4.22) in the decisive game of a three-game series. It will be Oviedo's first start since Aug. 4 when he made a brief return to the majors after sitting out more than a year following Tommy John surgery.

Oviedo is 0-1 with a 6.75 ERA in two career starts against Toronto. Pittsburgh will need to make a roster move to clear space for his recall from the minors prior to the Wednesday game.

On the mound, Bassitt will be looking for his first win since July 23 against the New York Yankees. He is entering what could be a crucial start as he tries to retain a spot in the rotation with the team debut of Shane Bieber looming on Friday.

Bassitt last pitched on Friday against the Texas Rangers in Toronto. He allowed three runs on four hits and four walks while striking out four over five innings. Bassitt left with a no-decision in a game Toronto eventually won 6-5.

Bassitt, who is 8-0 with a 2.73 ERA in 14 starts at home, has been a far different pitcher away from Toronto. On the road, he is 3-6 with a 6.39 ERA in 11 starts and one relief appearance.

Bassitt, however, is a perfect 4-0 for his career with a 2.10 ERA in five starts against the Pirates.

In the finale, the Rays will roll out staff ace Drew Rasmussen, who has been consistently excellent even when his squad around him struggled to score.

Pitching in mostly five- and six-inning starts, Rasmussen (10-5, 2.60 ERA) has crafted stellar outings: Fourteen of his 24 games have featured the right-hander allowing either one earned run or none at all.

August has been the best month thus far for Rasmussen, who is 2-0 with a 0.52 ERA and a ridiculously low 0.635 WHIP.

In his previous road start against the Yankees on July 28, he earned the win in a 4-2 decision by throwing five innings of two-run ball despite missing the strike zone early.

"Anytime Ras, whatever lineup he's facing ... we'll feel good about it," Cash said before Tuesday's long-ball display. "He's put together a really solid season. He's been dominant here at certain points."

Rasmussen, who has wins in his past four decisions, is 3-1 with an 0.85 ERA in six career appearances (five starts) against New York.

The Yankees will counter with right-hander Cam Schlittler, who is 1-2 with a 3.94 ERA in an impressive beginning to his career over six starts.

In his lone career appearance against the Rays, Schlittler was matched up against Rasmussen in the Yankees' 4-2 loss and surrendered three runs on seven hits in 4 1/3 innings and walked four.

Tampa Bay All-Star Junior Caminero ripped a two-run homer off the Walpole, Mass., native to set the tone in the first inning.

Twins right-hander Bailey Ober (4-7, 5.15 ERA) will try to go deeper when he takes the mound for his 21st start. He is in search of his first victory since May 3 against the Boston Red Sox.

In his last outing, Ober drew a no-decision after allowing three runs on four hits in 5 1/3 innings against the Detroit Tigers. He walked none and struck out four.

Ober is 3-0 with a 1.33 ERA in three career starts against the Athletics.

The Athletics will counter with rookie right-hander J.T. Ginn (2-5, 5.04), who is set to make his 10th start. He has 61 strikeouts in 55 1/3 innings.

The 26-year-old Mississippi State product will try to bounce back from a rocky outing last Wednesday, when he allowed six runs (five earned) on six hits in two innings to the Tampa Bay Rays.

This will be Ginn's first career start against Minnesota.
