RED WINGS VS BLACKHAWKS

#4 Preds 102 points
#5 Wings 101 points
#6 Hawks 99 points

Looking deeper into this game then just the normal Hawks vs Wings rivalry you will see that depending on the winner it sets a lot of possibilities up. First lets look at what happens if the Wings were to win. They would then have 103 points and jump ahead of the Preds. However Preds still play tomorrow but Wings winning has the potential to set them up for home ice advantage vs the Preds which would be huge for them since they are slacking on the road this year. If the Hawks were to win in regulation they could possibly jump up and take the 5th seed away from Detroit. Setting up a Preds vs Hawks series and Wings vs Kings or Yotes or Sharks or whoever wins the Pacific.

So basically what I'm getting at is the Wings have more to gain by winning this game. They would have a possibility of home ice advantage against the Preds. On the other hand I don't think the Hawks want anything to do with the Wings or Preds right now. Yes Hawks are 1-3 against the Kings this year but the Preds are so damn pesky it's ridiculous. I think Hawks put up a little bit of a fight but they are happy with the #6 seed. 

Wings win tomorrow as much as I hate to say that

Hawks are locked into the 6th seed with nothing to play for at all. Even if they win... The Wings get 5th based on more wins.

Wings playing for potential home ice vs Preds... But Preds playing an AV's team that just got neutered at home by Columbus.

Ya gotta consider the start time for your game which is 1pm Eastern.

How do the teams (especially the Wings) play in day games...???

Keep you eyes on any roster call ups or reports on who will sit out the game... No telling how the coaches might approach this semi-meaningless game.

No...If Detroit loses in regulation they move to 6th place. If they win they can possibly jump up into the 4th spot with a Predators lose

If Hawks win tomorrow them and Detroit would both be tied with 39 ROW. The next tiebreaker is the season series record which would favor the Hawks. Therefore Hawks move to 5th and Wings drop to 6th

DET has 48 wins and CHI has only 44 wins... if they finish even in points (with a Wings loss in Reg time) then DET would still have 48 wins to CHI's only 45 wins...

Hawks are locked into the 6th seed.

That writer is incorrect.

Just thought I'd let you know that the Bruins are a solid play tomorrrow, the sabres most likely will give miller the rest since he has had a heavy workload... johnas enorth has aabout a 4.6GAA against the Bruins in his carerr and he has never beat them in 4 games. This will be a tune up game for Boston with Thomas, Chara, Bergeon all playing. RIght now line is at -150, but could go to -200 once if it gets announced that miller won't be playing, I don't know for sure that he won't be it just makes sense that they would shut him down

also forgot to emotion that thomas is 3-0 against the sabres this year, and I doubt that buffalo is gonna play hard in this one since they are officially out of contention

thank god that writer is incorrect. If the yotes won the division and had to play the red wings first round I would go insane. Let the yotes play anyone but the wings for the love of god.

Go to NHL.com they even have it posted. 


  • The fewer number of games played (i.e., superior points percentage).
  • The greater number of games won, excluding games won in the Shootout. This figure is reflected in the ROW column.
  • The greater number of points earned in games between the tied clubs. If two clubs are tied, and have not played an equal number of home games against each other, points earned in the first game played in the city that had the extra game shall not be included. If more than two clubs are tied, the higher percentage of available points earned in games among those clubs, and not including any "odd" games, shall be used to determine the standing.

    Tie breaker is decided by ROW which Detroit has 39 and the Hawks have 38. If they Hawks win tomorrow they would both have 39. Next tie breaker is who had the most wins head to head. Read it on NHL.com

    DET- ROW=39 Losses=34(29 plus 5 in OT/SO) = 39 wins in 73 games.

    CHI-ROW=39 Losses=37(26 plus 11 in OT/SO) = 39 wins in 76 games.

    I don't see how they could give CHI the 5th seed when it took them 3 more games to get those extra 3 points needed.

    So maybe winning in SO does not mean anything to the ROW but losing in SO does matter... meaning that winning in SO really does matter in the end.

    I kind of hope it happens now so I can hear thier reasoning and see what happens.

    All that matters is they would both have 39 ROW wins. Second tie breaker would be the season series which would go to the Hawks if the Hawks one. Just the rules I didn't make them haha I just thought it was a valid point because I don't think Hawks want to move up at all

    • Also I don't see what you are talking about with the different amount of games. By the end of the season they have all played the same amount of games so they would both be tied with 39 ROW in 82 games

    The # of games thing only comes into play during the season and how they are ranked I believe but I could be wrong

    The f'n way they do the standings and tiebreakers is f'n idiotic. Wins should be the 1st tiebreaker. If you have the SO then why diminish it ?

    No idea man...like I said I'm not trying to say I want my Hawks to move up or anything I just saw this to be a rare spot to maybe take advantage of as far as betting goes
