Burke's denying this, but apparently a deal was in place to send Ryan Whitney to the Maple Leafs for Nik Antropov.
Another rumored deal was Goligoski and a 1st rounder for Antropov.
The Pens were then supposedly going to send Antropov to the Thrahsers in a deal that would've involved Colby Armstrong and Kovalchuk coming back.
However, the whole thing seemingly fell apart when Therrien was fired.

So if I read this right, the Pens would have gotten Kovalchuk and Armstrong for Nik Antropov If that was even considered by Atlanta management, they should be fired today. What a joke of a franchise that is.

As I mentioned, it was a rumored dealing INVOLVING those three players. Obviously Kovalchuk and Armstrong for Antropov would never be considered.

I read this a couple of days ago and I cant find a reason why Burke wouldnt trade Antropov for 1st and Goligoski
I gotcha weeble. I clicked on your link and it said the same thing, so I was kinda dumbfounded
As a Leafs fan, what do you think of Antropov? He just doesn't seem like a winner to me. I know he's big and talented and been on some bad teams, but there seems to be something missing in his game to me.

Nik is a 60-point guy. And that's on a bad team. I'd like to see what he does on a better team. Burke's not a stupid guy. He knows that several teams out there are looking for a guy who's 6+ feet and scores 60+ points. The Leafs should get a half-decent pick for him at the very least.

I love Kovalchuk and Antropov... if either of them come to Pittsburgh I will order my jersey before the team does!
Antropov is one of the only guys I like on the Leafs, I love his style. Kovalcuk is Kovalchuk, if you don't think he's one of the best in the game you're lying to yourself.

I think Antropov would fit the puzzle for any contending team looking for a cheap rental player. For his salary, he's not as awful as Leaf fans make him out to be.

Doubt the pens offered that.
To take a salary they need to trade one.

I can see then Pens wanting Kovy to play with Sykora & Malkin, but they will not give up much of anything for a rent a player such as he.
