A football play goes to completion as long as the ball is snapped before time runs out.  Similar to basketball, as long as the ball is completely out of the hand of the shooter before the zeroes on the clock, the shot counts (make or miss).

to add...if the punter didn't step out of the endzone and got tackled by a defender...TD for BUF. giving up the 2 pts ensures that snap of the ball is OVER and a TENN victory

This, and other such comments, are way too harsh. Like, nasty.

One need not know every little rule to grasp the betting essence of the game. (Or in fact how to play it - ask McNabb!!)

I knew a guy about 12 years ago who bet less that 40 college and pro football games a season.  For two years I checked his plays - yes before the game was played!  He hit around 74% wins. Nice profits.

Yet once,watching a game, he asked me (after a comment by a broadcaster) what was the difference between a stongside linebacker and a weakside one. (That info had no bearing on how he came up with a fair and consistent share of winners - and knowing all the ins and outs will not guarantee you betting success)

Too much self-righteousness on this board.  If you know, fine,  share your knowledge with others without being a schmuck. And I bet I  can take the 2009 NFL rulesbook (new stuff every year!) and stump the zen masters of football here!  (Not online of course, anyone can then run to the rules and give a correct reply.)
