The Legion of Boom is no more...

Now it's the Legion of Doom. As in, the Seahawks themselves are doomed.

    Why?

It goes back many years. Sometimes it takes years to make the right play.

Years ago, listening to Colin Cowherd on ESPNradio (yes he offers nuggets of wisdom to inspire capping regardless of what you think), he said the best bargain in all of sports was Russell Wilson on his rookie contract. But when it came time to pay him, the Hawks would struggle mightily to keep their high priced pieces in the Legion.

He was making $619,000 guaranteed during his Super Bowl year. Then the floodgates opened. He signed an $87 million dollar extension in 2015.

Cowherd warned of all the investments made in the D being jettisoned because Wilson came SO cheap and when he got paid it, there would be hell to pay on D. And that day has come.

All that salary, and some other signings, are at the door with their hand out now.

The D is no more. There are too many names to list here. Bin short, the entire Legion of Boom is gone.

Wilson will get them wins. He can put a team on his shoulders. He's that good and, all in all, his contract may even be a bargain when compared to those above him (only the seventh highest paid).

But not only did the Defense turn to rubble:

    1) Rashad Penny

The Hawks, with all the holes in their D and a questionable O-Line, drafted Rashad Penny, an RB out of SDSU. That pick was important because they had no second rounder. How well did he do in preseason? He didn't. He's currently injured and in practice games, a 7th rounder in Chris Carson was outplaying him.

That is a 'Jets-like disaster of a pick. Type in 'Jets Draft Blunders' in youtube to see what I mean.

While they drafted well in the 4th round in Shaquem Griffen out of UCF, the draft as a whole was a consensus C/C- by draft experts. So the draft did little to help with their problems, especially in a questionable first rounder who they want to throw to.

    2) They have an aging coach who hasn't lost the team but has seen far better days.

Carrol's act wears thin when his teams lose. And they haven't lost much to see it. But maybe there's an indicator before the season starts that hints at darker days ahead.

Get this: Carroll loves to win in the preseason. As head coach in the NFL he's one of the most profitable. He is 26-10 ATS with the Seahawks. The overwhelming majority of those games are wins SU because preseason lines are small.

This year? 0-3 in the preseason. That's never happened. Preseason matters to him. And this year, his team isn't responding.

    3) Hiring Brian Schottenheimer as OC.

What the...FUC*? Before getting fired from the Jets, his offense ranked 20th in Off efficiency...

He was hired by Fisher's Rams after that. His OFF Efficiency? 21, 22, 25th in those three years.

Then he took a demotion as coordinator for UGA and ranked...81st....

Ok. Yes, THAT's the guy I want running my O.

No. Again, this is on the level of "Same Old Jets" lunacy.

    4) The Schedule

This should scare every over RSW bettor:

They played the second easiest schedule and won 9 games last year.

This year they play the third hardest...

But remember this, they played the Niners twice without Garoppolo last year, and once against CJ Beathard. This year they won't have that luxury.

When I saw Houston FLY up and down the their home field, a field once regarded as the toughest in the NFL to play at, to the tune of 509 yards in a 41-38 win, Cowherd's words, and this bet came to mind.

Now it's time to pull the trigger.

7.5 is low, and not the best line compared to the opening, but not low enough to push me off a bet.

Could not agree more. Let's also not forget that Carroll is one of the few coaches who really tries to win in the preseason (I think he was 34-14 coming into this year, or something close to that) but this year he's 0-3.

    Damn Scal......

I went into my pro football mag to see if I could play devils advocate to show another side, but could only find one tiny morsel of practiclally insignificant value.

Ken Norton Jr. is the DC for Seattle which according to the magazine will bring more passion and emotion to the team.

    WHOOP DI DOO!

More passion and emotion with an empty six shooter on D. In the end they’ll realize they’re more sitting ducks than Seahawks!

Spot on ....The local handles plenty of dump offs from other locals across us & Canada ... He currently has under 7.5 -185

.....I asked why , he said it was his 2nd most wagered on NFL total next to our home town Bills ..

    Ny of Garrett double

Kimoins - it’s like Rob Ryan. His numbers on D are awful and yet...he still gets hired.

my book has them at +100 juiced to the under. i'd definitely hit it.

Seahawks look atrocious in the preseason. they aren't going 9-7 or better thats for sure. 7-9 or 6-10

Sip on that plus money honey!

Little late on this one, brother. We had a thread going on Seattle's win total a couple few month's ago when total's came out. However, that thread is buried and gone so kudos on dropping a write-up for the start of the season. BOL this year, brother. Don't let haters drag you down.

Of course I'm late on this! CFB comes first and foremost by a landslide so the majority of offseason capping gets dedicated to that. Then comes the Giants and Jets in the NFL. And then and only then comes the other NFL teams. So yes, I'm late to the window but the number is still acceptable...

It's probably irrelevant in the grand scheme of things but are you a little concerned if the Seahawks put in a dominant performance in the last week of the preseason carrying that form into the new season?

Not at all. Starters don’t play significant minutes on the other side of the ball in game 4. It’s typically the worst game to bet on in the preseason because it’s the most volatile.

Just trying to get you all winners!

I think it’s good karma to share what you know (or at least think you know). Hypothesize is a better word than know.
