I think he felt his chances to make the 4th and 2 and win the game were greater than if he punted.  New Englands D is banged up very bad and they had just giving up 2 td very very quick.  I don't agree with the decision but that had to be his thinking.

the ref made the right call, and the pats had no timeouts to challenge it

See u cannot let them score unless your only up 1 or 2.  If your up 3 or more you have to play D and hope you stop them.

That was the right move and thats why Belichick is Belichick.  He is a genius and anybody that has done the math (99% of sports fans aren't math people) will tell you it was the right call!!!

I mean this site is dedicated to making gambles when the odds are in your favor.  Thats what Belichick did.  I don't get how anybody can possibly criticize him for this.

Obviously, The Colts didn't beat the Patriots. The Patriots beat the Patriots. Just as the Falcons didn't beat the Bears. The Bears beat the Bears from weeks ago.

It certainly would have been interesting to hear the opinions if they had made it, but still.  You just simply don't risk that much right there unless you are at the 50 yard line or beyond. 

Do I understand why he did it?  Of course.  You make it, you win.

But the play calling beforehand, as well as the random timeouts for no reason just is completely boneheaded.  It was the first game the Pats lost because of piss poor coaching.  That's all.  The Pats players beat the Colts players.  Unfortunately, as Eagles and Chargers and Raiders fans know, it's not always all about the players.
