Sprained MCL's don't prevent you from walking up and down the stairs. Yet another non-story being made into a story by those who don't know the facts.

ive torn my mcl and i cont. to ride motocross the weekend that it happened ( but that motion was straight up and down) no way was i able to turn or push of of that knee in any other direction other than up and down. I hate cutler but if it was torn he should not of been back out there in the second half ( oh by the way I had the bears +3.5 and plus +10 in a tearser) so at the time i was as pissed as anyone, but until youve torn your mcl and tried to do anything incuilding to take a shit.... shut the fuck up

Not surprised you came back with a dumb statement like this. When backed in a corner with facts nothing you can do but admit you were wrong or spew random nonsense. Like everyone else you chose to spew random nonsense. You didn't simply state that 99.9 % of the NFL would have stayed in the game. You tried to make a story out of him walking up the stairs. 99.9% of the NFL wouldn't have come back anyway. You can start by asking LT and Ward.

He does show he gives a fuck. The beating that pathetic o-line gives him week after week only for him to get up and try again shows he gives a fuck. The 11 wins and the nfc championship game he led the Bears to shows he gives a fuck. Trying to stay in the game with a concussion and MCL Sprain shows he gives a fuck. Refusing to slide when he scrambles shows he gives a fuck. Laying blocks shows he gives a fuck. A dopey look on his face doesn't show whether he gives a fuck or not.

Cutler gave it a shot. There's only so much the body will let you do. Here's a post from a physical therapist I took from another site. It's not all about the pain

    ----

There's the key word, effectively. Yes you could go back out there, and he did, for at least the last drive of the first half and first drive of the second half. The main problem is lack of stability in the knee. The ligament itself isn't the huge issue, it's the muscles that surround and provide stability to the knee that are the culprit. As a defense mechanism, there are receptors in those muscles that send a signal to your brain to keep the muscles from activating in the presence of swelling in order to prevent further damage to the knee. Because it was a fresh injury, Cutler would have had a large amount of swelling in that area so those muscles would not be activating due to the signals being sent to the brain to shut it down. You can tape the knee, and brace the knee, but because the muscles themselves are shutting down, there's no way the knee will be stable enough to support the weight of the body to provide the kind of base you would need to plant and throw.

With even a weeks worth of treatment, that swelling can come down enough to keep the muscles from shutting down and maybe get the player back out there with a brace, but even then there's no guarantee because the ligament itself will not be healed and with even a small tweak, fresh swelling can begin to build. It's unlikely that many players would be able to play with a FRESH injury like this, and even less likely so when that player is a quarterback.

As a side note, I had this exact injury, grade II MCL sprain, in college. I completely shut down all physical activity for 6 full weeks. After that time, I was no longer having pain with walking or stair climbing and was cleared for light jogging. I got about 3 strides in when my knee gave out and I fell flat on my face. It's really not a surprise to me that Cutler did not finish the game. I was a lot more surprised after learning about the exact injury that he was able to even get out there and attempt to play in the first place.

    Guys.....

If y'all wanna debate the actual physical impacts of the MCL tear, I can agree with you up to a point.  Let's say I lose that debate - no problem.

But then there's the non-debatable issue of Jay Cutler being Jay Cutler.  He's a bitch plain and simple.  This isn't a diss towards Chicago or Bears fans, it's a simple fact.  I like quite a few of Chicago's players and the history of the team.

But real recognize real - Cutler's a whiny, pouty, "woe is me" bitch.

That right there, is not debatable.....

No, it's a grade II and Depeche is basing his opinion on the facts from the doctors.

and when I mean to some degree, I mean in a championship game he should have tried to stay in until it was more evident that he couldn't continue

That is exactly what he did

not once did he appear to be severely hurt or demonstrate it to the extent that it could be anything more then a level one injury......if at all.

When has he ever demonstrated he was injured. Not just last week but ever? He's a tough guy and he doesn't show it. He doesn't need to demonstrate he was severely hurt for the sake of acting. The MRI says it all.

He has a pouty look on his face almost all the time. That is not debatable. That's how he looks, big deal. Being whiny is debatable. I'm not completely familiar with his Denver days but in the 2 years he's been in Chicago can you name one thing he's whined about? (and believe me he has plenty of things he could have whined out)

In my opinion This is exactly right. He taking more flack than he should be on this particular issue but it is because of the way he has acted in the past being pouty and so on.

Cutler knew the only chance the Bears had was for him to leave the game. Give him some credit for thinking of the team first!
