70% is an impossible statistic, so let's assume you cap the NFL and hit 62.5%. To make a living at this you would have to wager around $3000/week to make 60k; and that's over an entire year. The NFL season is less than half the year, so, double the 3k to 6k.

Do you have that kind of money? If you do than rock on and give it your best. My point is that most people dont, and therefore, wont make it a living.

Ok well I will agree with you and this point 100%!

You are right it would take a bankroll of at least 50k to even think about making a straight living off this.  And most of us do not have it.  But I can still be successful betting 50 a pop.  But once again you are right and I should have agreed with you already.  It should be a hobby for most of us.  That being said my points of commen sense, MM, etc..  say the same thing.  Anyone who understands the basics to gambling should already know this though.  Anyways its whatever

It is quite believable that anyone can beat the 53.2% break-even point on any given month or even year. One lucky parlay is all it takes sometimes.

But can somebody PLEASE tell me, how in hell can you make a LIVING out of sports-betting, especially in the USA? (where you gotta pay taxes?!). You are not risking 1.1 units to win 1 unit, you are risking almost 2 units per units, since the government will tax you on whatever you make for a living. I can see a small time winning gambler getting away with it but if you're making 50K+ a year, you're eventually gonna spend it in visible assets, you're going to invest some of it and maybe live the luxury life, since you don't have to go to work everyday.

Also, if you have un-declared revenue, even in a country that does not tax on gambling winnings, how are you going to tell the bank you made an extra 50K a year for the past 5 years when comes time to finance an investment property or a mortgage?

Thank you Lions fan and good luck in the SuperBowl. It is ALL money management and accessing info...Dont EVER go too heavy on favorites either. Although they come in more than dogs, having the balls to take the dog is what breeds success.

pisser the Lions did'nt keep it tight in NO and cover that10.5...I had em and I guess they just coulnt keep up...Calvin Johnson is the best wide receiver to ever play the game in my opinion and he isnt even done yet

Giants +8 in GreenBay was the biggest gift of the year and oddsmakers are still kickin themselves on that fuck-up

It is a hobby and fun one at that...

Is that how many times it was Ed? I just remember rodgers rushin for almost as many yards as he threw for the Packers were so bad. In the weeks before that they lost to KC, got outplayed yet won by chicago and Cade McCown and Detroit put 40 on the board week 17.

Ed if you tell me you had GB -8 I would hafta say you just dont pay attention.

Joan Jett just stopped by and she's pretty fuckin smokin in real life. Her and her husband are up here on a Winter Ice fishing trip in Northern Maine. This is the 3rd night in a row these fuckin vacationers have got me to eat mushrooms and I cant look like a cheap as and ask em for money but I cant heat my house on sellin bait for too much longer. Im gonna see if her husband can handle the ones in the red wrapper they knock your fuckin socks off ...  muahaha...

After shoveling my way through all the bullshit this thread contains, I've found some pay dirt.

Money management and Giants +8 being (one of) the biggest gifts of the year.

I'm pretty sure my son's 7 year old sister can wrap her around money management being the key in just about any business. This is not something that should take you longer than a season (to be generous, some people start off slow) to figure out. Money management is the key to longevity. I figured this out before the end of preseason and this is my first year wagering on NFL or period.

I do believe it possible to make a living on gambling. For my own sanity's sake I will not go back into this thread to find out who said it, but they hit the nail on the head when they said that this should be a hobby with greater potentials. That is exactly how I look at it. I can't afford to lay down huge bets, but I work with what I can to be able to last a whole season (oh, wow, money management) and some nice parlays have saved my ass. I'm still however working on and discovering capping techniques.

If any of you more experienced people have any tips, please drop me a mail.

First, it needs to be known that this is only a business for the rich, (obviously) or people that provide information professionally. Illegal business is not considered 'business', but, here in New England it is certainly that. I'm not proud but I've done everything to sitting in a man's house for 3 day's while his wife waited for em, to collecting cards for men that never paid me. I've had my own mothers' phone ring on a bet I made against the due I owed my superior....

I have more stories than most of you 21-25 year old's think you have. When I converted this into a hobby instead of a business things have gotten better. What, do you think you're bookie is gonna keep answering his phone if you're killin' it? He'll take time off and wait for you to get anxious. He knows what you normally bet so he waits. I used to get INSTUCTED to say a O/U was 37 when it wa actually 47 against the guys I knew would just PAY!! even if they knew they were right!!

Play small fellas otherwise you are not going to bull-shit me. I've seen guys remortgage their houses and make excuses only druggies make...Even if you get in the scene and THINK you're a dawg the only avenue is violence to get to what you think is a damn dream...

Vegas crushes everyone in this and stop making this what you think is a business...make it a hobby...get a little online account and a little hot girl and be happy with what you have..otherwise, spend your first 8 years like I did...

if you can't hit 50 percent in the streak survivor contest.   you shouldn't be betting at all.

Im confused on what ur saying. I have been in the business, for years ,have kept it small time ,piggybacking off friends of mine that have done this full time for over40 years.Im in my 50s.A friends father has been booking since we were kids .His father gave him his own spot when he was 25

.I started betting with the father when I was 17 in 1974. Then staying with the son until I decided and they let me  get involved 7 years ago..Never once did he or anyone hooked up with his name give a bad line .Years ago when it was the phone only u would get a NYline sometimes of a half point diffrence on certain games, but never a 10 point swing against people that will pay anyway ??? wtf does that mean. . Since being hooked into online since 2001 those NY lines dont even exsist anymore.,.My connections plus the few ones I know across the country are all legit all treat it as a legit business, and yes once in a while someone doesnt pay and you have to go after them, but never the movie stuff where there waiting in someones house or breaking kneecaps ,CMON Now .My end is small and its somewhat of a hobby but I still run it like a business.First of all everyone starts out on a limit per gamebet and per week losses ,After proving that they are MEN and pay when there suppose to we raise the limit. But never over a certain amount .We cut someone after a week if they dont pay ,give them 2 weeks to take care of it ,then they get turned back on .If it goes longer than 2 weeks it becomes a loan ,with intrest,(No one wants to pay extra on a loss)

.Most players are legit ,and they just want to bet.the threat of being cut off from a honest book and one that understadns people have bad streaks as well as good ones  and will work with  ,is good enough to keep them playing with you. When you let someone making 600 a week bet 2000 a week your gonna get burned .Know your players and dont be a greedy bastard  helps .

I think the writer of this thread is either a 20 year old kid who has no connections at all has watched to many movies and probbly bets $5dollar 4 team parlays online . Or a degen, gambler who has taken friends bets instead of calling them in ,thinking hes a big shot, and got burned

With all due respect 54Capper, I'm was in my 20's when I did it. Absolutely the number 1 thing you do is know what someone does for a living, have them earn their credibility, and most the times it all works out. The person that I dealt with was not an honest person, therefore dealing with him led to me being dishonest. I was in my early 20's making enough money and was full of piss and vinegar - to say the least.

Whether or not you believe the stories are no bother to me and in retrospect, I should not even of mentioned them. The people that respond to this and assume first that I'm bragging don't bother me either. Why in the hell would I brag about something like this?

My point of writing this was to the people that ACTUALLY ARE IN THEIR EARLY 20's who have this dream that they can bet on sports for a living. Poker and giving sports advice I think are different stories. To keep betting in perspective is my entire point and as a re-read the post on page 1, I realize I should have articulated it better. I have seen people basically ruin their lives through doing this and to prevent 1 person from doing that is enough for me.

The 10 point swing? Against people that WONT pay; so basically let em run the bill up and get what you can out of them. If a guy owes 500bucks and you know he may not be good for it let em go to 1500 because when you ask him for the 1500 and he gives you 500, thats all you were looking for anyways. If he wins back the 500 bucks just stop dealing with him. As you know there are warning signs as to when someone may not pay you. If you run it legitimately than congratulations and I hope it all works out. In my experience, degenerate gamblers will always fuck you in the end, period. And these types of people are ALWAYS credible in the beginning, the disease causes them to be someone their not.
