Not surprising about the 7%... if many low information Americans right here on covers were asked where covid came from, they would answer Donald Trump instead of the truth, which is, as all sane people know, from a laboratory in Wuhan, China.
If you asked this 7% about governmental measures taken from the very beginning of the outbreak, they would reply with disjointed and biased Trump hatred that had zero to do with real measures that he took to counteract the disease. Indeed he was very proactive in his response but they cannot see beyond their hatred of the man...
I speculate about a certain number of Trump haters, that they are taking sides in the Obama/Trump feud and that it has zero to do with 45's record on the job. It is instead a response of political and yes racial solidarity for their man. Sad that they cannot see that this man that they despise, has done so much for the country and for all of its people regardless of race or political persuasion.
They would with open arms embrace another man who has participated in a fraudulent election and who has had a record of pay for play with many of our adversaries (most of all China).
This tells me one major thing about them...and that is that they are naive and easily conned and also more importantly, that they don't know right from wrong.
The fate of our nation is at stake and I for one don't want the USA to be a vassal state of Red China.

If at least 3 out of every 10 American's would read the book Adam Smith (I guess asmth stands for that) wrote (Wealth of Nations) - most of what you have described in a negative aspect and what the OP started this thread from - could be avoided.
