He’s a 36-year-old point guard who can’t play a lick of defense but he’s still arguably the league’s most valuable players.
Don’t believe me?
Then you obviously didn’t see the Suns in action Wednesday night against the Heat and Thursday against the Magic.
Nash played in that game against the Heat but his groin was clearly bothering him. It doesn’t matter who's on the Suns roster. Their offense doesn't function without Nash on the floor.
Backup point guard Goran Dragic is a talented player and he was huge coming off the bench for Phoenix last season. But he’s a scoring guard and isn’t great at getting his teammates involved.
Nash won’t play tonight against the Bobcats (BetJamaica has Charlotte as a 1-point home dog) and is doubtful for Monday’s game against the Rockets. I know those are two bad teams, but I’m going to be fading Phoenix in both spots.
Other injury notes
Multiple oddsmakers have told me that an NBA team missing its star player usually puts out a maximum effort in the first game. After that game things tend to balance out and the absence of the start player really gets felt.
I saw a perfect example of that Friday night. The Celtics played like crap and the Thunder, missing Kevin Durant (and Jeff Green) made them pay for it.
If Durant is a no-go tonight, I like the Bucks to bring Oklahoma City back down to earth.
Boxscore of the week
Matt Barnes isn’t known for his shooting stroke, more for his toughness and defense. So when I saw his line from Friday’s game against the Timberwolves, I had to double check the numbers.
Barnes went 5-for-5 from the free throw line, 5-for-5 from beyond the arc and 7-for-7 from the field. He also added seven rebounds, six assists, two steals and no turnovers.
That’s what I call a productive 24 minutes.

I don't know Ashton - I can agree that Nash is an elite PG but unfortunately is starting to fade. With the age becomes more frequent injuries. No doubt he will be a future HOF'er, but I think his time in the NBA is starting to come to a close. I can see him pulling off some great games this season, but I don't think he will get a mention for MVP this year.
