Ariza without a doubt....this post-season was his coming out party. He was in the top 10 in the league in steals. He needs to add a little more strength and work on his mid range game, his spot up 3s, and develop his fadeaway that he likes to use and its a wrap. He's a 18 & 7 guy a night (without running any plays for him...sort like Marion)....thats all Kobe and the Lakers need from him.

But anyway, I see what you're saying Rod...BUT, I think when you consider the LONG TERM value of both players you truly have a debate where Ariza probably gets the edge. He is only 23 while Odom is will turn 30 later this year. Odom definitely has more natural basketball talent, but, considering the age of both players I think I might lean Ariza if I had to make a choice.

I don't get the debate either. A 5th option player whose job is stand behind the 3 point line and hustle on defense and if he makes plays it's a bonus. Or, the 3rd option on your team who is expected to contribute nightly? Not a tough choice in my opinion either, especially if some team is going to go and overbid on Ariza. It's easier to find an Ariza type player than a guy like Odom. And this is even with Odom being a wildly inconsistent player.

He went thru the reg. season in and out the starting lineup. Only finally finding his way in the Playoffs when they had to start throwing the double team at Kobe Pau Lamar and even Andrew. He finally started getting open looks and knockingn down h is shot as any NBA player should do...He was able to drop down and play a little harder D in the playoffs as teams the whole team played better Team D. Yes he was quick made the big steal but he would of never be able to do that without Lamar guarding the inboards pass against Denver.
Odom on the other hand is a 6-10 swingman who can do just about anything. He can run, He can shot, He can post you up and play with his back to the basket, he can take the ball like a guard and go coast to coast, he can handle any teams power forward if he has to...People say he only shows up when he has his Skittles in the morning but I will take a guy who can go for a triple double on any given night. When the Lakers have the likes of Kobe, Pau, Anderw and now Artest forget about it. They will have the biggest and badest Guards in basketball. Can you imagine the lineup down the stretch Kobe at the 1 Ron at the 2 Lamar at the 3 Pau at the 4 and Andrew at the 5..
If Odom resigns for about 8-9 million a year the Lakers might as well tell the Cops in LA to get out the road blocks because there is going to be another trip on those double decker buses down S. Figueroa to the Coliseum. with KOBE and company holding up both those Trophys once again...

I'm VERY confident that I'd beat him in a shooting contest. Odom should be MUCH better than he shows. Even when he was averaging double doubles, I always felt like he was underachieving.
Now's a good time for the Lakers to let Odom go. He's only going downhill from here. Unless he'd be willing to sign a one year deal for $5-$6 mil. I wouldnt give him a multi year deal.
