Mak's It's Back Money Monday Picks

Yaahooooooooooo the NBA is back baby!! I am as giddy as a school girl.  Fuck it was a long summer without NBA ball, this is gonna be a hell of a season fellas, also going to be difficult to cap with so many competitive teams but with the help of posters and these forums I am sure we can make some stacks and beat the bookie.  Let's have a fun and profitable season fellas, BOL to each of you.  Here are my opening night picks.

CLEVELAND CAVALIERS + 7.5 - - - You will not see me betting against the Celts ATS a lot this season.  This is the team that single handedly won me a lot of money last year.  I rode these guys from mid-season all the way to championship and they did not disappoint.  Nevertheless, I gotta go with the Cavs on this one.  The departure of James Posey is under-estimated.  Tony Allen may be able to replace what he did offensively but Posey is the man who guards perimeter stars for Boston.  Without him I think they will struggle against teams who have a star SG or SF.  Lebron will have to watch the ring ceremony, should pump him up.  With the acquisition of Mo Williams Cavs solidifiy a starting 5 that is impressive.  Mo, Dalonte, LBJ, Big Ben and Big Z.  Backin em up are guys like Varajao, Boobie, Wally and Sasha this team is stacked.  I still think Cavs championship hopes are a bit over-hyped this year, that doesn't erase the fact they have a hell of a basketball team this year and with the King only the sky is the limit.  Cavs cover.  If your a true gambler and like the risk go for the ML.
KING'S TEAM 5 UNITS - - -

CHICAGO BULLS - 5.5 - - - This is a risky bet because the Bulls may want some revenge for a loss in Chi Town late in the pre-season.  Even if Rose plays or not (which I suspect he will) I think the Bulls are a very under-estimated team.  If you recall 2 years ago these are the same Bulls who contended for tops in the East and swept the Heat in the first round.  This is also a team that was touted to win the East last year and flopped like never before.  Then the lucky bastard win the lottery and add the best pure talent in the draft (my opinion).  Rose, Gordon, Deng, Nocioni, Tyrus Thomas, Joakim Noah...that is a lot pf pure young talent that can succeed.  Vinney Del Negro is a new coach however is backed up by Del Harris who has assited some of the best coaches in the league for over 20 years.  This Bulls team is a big sleeper of mine and I will ride them this season against mediocre teams...and the Bucks...no matter how much talent they have...are as mediocre as they come.  Bulls cover.
5 UNITS BULLS - - -

LOS ANGELES LAKERS - 6.5 - - - What a matchup this should be, Oden vs Bynum...this is going to be a battle for years to come, may even gain the hype that Hakeem and Shaq did a few years ago...remember that? Ahhh...the good old days. I think Portland is a team you do not want to under-estimate, the hype is for good reason, hell of a front court, hell of a bench, and a hell of a star and leader in B.Roy....so why the Lake Show?  I think showtime will end up with the best record in the NBA this season.  I think Bynum will exceed expectations.  The Lakers are ready for this game and know they must win, when this Laker team was asked what player to watch out for the in the NBA this year, 9 players stated Brandon Roy...included Kobe.  All the Lakers know how good this Blazer team is and will be at the top of their games.  POD is the Lakeshow tonight.

good writeups mak.  not the easiest card to cap imo. the chi/mill game is garbage and neither team is gonna get my $$. i origionally was leaning toward boston. i am still undecided on that game. i think that the cavs will have trouble scoring against the big green. i do like the lakeshow though. portland is a great team and will do well ats the spread this year but i think they start the season slow. lakers will overpower this young blazer team. kobe will be back and he will get his team involved early then put the dagger in late with a flurry of fg's and free throws. really like the lakers here. laker line was bet down a lil but im not putting much emphasis on that. think the lakers win by double figures here. gl. get that paper.....

Tric - - - Thanks my friend, you are very right.  Today is a tough start to cap, if it wasn't the first night I probably would hold off on some bets.  Historically the 3 game nights have not been good for me, those dreaded TNT Thursdays I always have bad calls.  Lakers are the safer play as the Bucks or Celtics could easily be victorious today.  But I say fuck it, if I start off on a bad note that is fine, I have been waiting 2 months (seems like a year) to bet on a regular season NBA game and I pulled the trigger, no hesitation even though I am not confident.  Be the smarter wagerer Tric, I would suggest 1 bet on the Lakers.  Thats it, good luck to you today bud.

Hey Mak, I remember you from last season.  Good luck this year, hope its a good one.  As far as the games for tomorrow, the boston/cavs game is a huge risk here and I wouldn't touch that game with a 10 foot pole.  Too many uncertanties here...will boston come out fired up? will lebron be pissed after the ceremony and come out firing? Can the celts defense be as good as last year? Who will stop lebron?....Forget about it.  If I had to take anything on that game, it would be the over.  The one game I like is the bucks/bulls.  But I'm against you on it my friend, I like the bucks.  The bucks have plenty of talent and 2 veteran stars in michael redd and richard jefferson.  The bulls are also a little banged up to start the season...no larry hughes and ben gordon is banged up.  I'll definitely take the points in this game because the bucks could easily take this game.  Good luck my friend.

CLE@BOS UNDER 180 - - - Why is everyone on the over?  Makes no sense to me.  Despite the fact that the Cavs will look to run more with Williams, all signs point to an under hear fellas come on.  Boston was the best defensive team I have seen in the last 6 years in the NBA.  No team has better rotation and help period.  The Cavs have vastly imprioved their defense, in the pre-season it was evident that was the main focus of this Cavs ball club.  I projext one team in the low 80's and one team in the high 70's as this should go under.

MIL@CHI OVER 194 - - - Last time these two teams met the score was 151 -135....no OT....what the fuck?  Talk about no defense.  Things have changed however both teams should look to push in an up tempo game.  Last 3 between the teams have gone over and 7 of the last 10.  With PG's like Rose, Ridnour, Gordon and Sessions running, both teams should reach the century mark.
