The Charlotte Hornets have something to build on, while the Cleveland Cavaliers will reflect on a one-sided loss after their most recent games when the teams meet Wednesday night in Charlotte.
The Hornets are back home following a 3-2 road trip that included victories against the Los Angeles Lakers and Denver Nuggets, two of the top six teams in the Western Conference.
The Hornets finished the trip on a high, dismantling Denver 110-87 on Sunday.
"It's really important and I think that the really great teams do both things -- they celebrate one another, they uplift each other and help push each other to be better," coach Charles Lee said. "And that's what holding each other accountable is, too. We have standards around here."
It was a big step for Charlotte, a franchise that hasn't won more than 27 games since 2021-22 and hasn't made the postseason since 2016.
"It shows growth," Hornets forward Miles Bridges said. "I don't think I've ever had a winning record going on the West Coast since I've been here. So for us to pull that off against good teams too, it's good for us and, hopefully, we can keep it going."
The Cavaliers had won two straight before a 136-104 loss Monday to visiting Oklahoma City.
The Hornets and Cavaliers split two December games in Cleveland, with the Hornets winning 119-111 in overtime before falling 139-132 eight days later, as Donovan Michell racked up 30 points for the Cavaliers.

Two teams that found themselves on opposite ends of high-scoring affairs Tuesday night get no break in the schedule when the Toronto Raptors and Sacramento Kings complete back-to-backs with a head-to-head matchup Wednesday night in the California capital.
Unfazed by the league's worst 3-point shooting percentage entering the game (33.6%), the Raptors rode a brilliant scoring night from Immanuel Quickley and 21-for-34 accuracy from deep to race past the Golden State Warriors 145-127 in San Francisco on Tuesday night.
Ninety miles to the northeast, the Kings watched the visiting Miami Heat put on a long-range shooting display, making 21 of 42, in a 130-117 triumph in Sacramento.
Both the Raptors and Kings were able to spread the minutes rather widely on the first night of the back-to-back, with Toronto using all 12 available players and Sacramento playing 10 for at least 19 minutes each.

Coming off another big victory, the Oklahoma City Thunder wrap up their road trip with a Wednesday night battle against the Bucks in Milwaukee.
The Thunder matched up with the Cavaliers on Martin Luther King Jr. Day and dominated 136-104, bouncing back from a two-point loss in Miami that snapped a five-game winning streak.
Milwaukee comes in off a much-needed 112-110 victory over the Hawks in Atlanta on MLK Jr. Day. The Bucks lost a 23-point advantage in the second half but held on for a key win over a team just in front of them in the Eastern Conference standings, snapping a three-game losing streak.
The Thunder swept the regular-season series against Milwaukee in dominating fashion a season ago and have won three straight over the Bucks by at least 18 points.
However, those numbers do not include the unofficial NBA Cup championship game in last season's in-season tournament, which the Bucks controlled 97-81 in Las Vegas.
