Rasheed Wallace missed shoot-around with flu-like symptoms. "Darko-itis," Billups joked. Jason Maxiell started in his place, but Wallace played and scored eight. He will be back in the starting lineup at Houston tonight.
Richard Hamilton played and scored 27 despite wearing a heavy wrap on his left leg. He has three bruises on his lower thigh.
Tracy McGrady's sprained right ankle made considerable improvement Tuesday, but the Rockets still consider him questionable until he tests it today.
"He definitely made pretty good improvement overnight," Rockets athletic trainer Keith Jones said. "We'll see how he responds when he gets on the court."
McGrady turned his right ankle late in the first half against the 76ers and pulled himself from the game four minutes into the second half.
"I can't (guess)," McGrady said when asked if he would be able to play tonight. "If I had to say, it will probably be a game-time decision. Coming off a pick-and-roll, I went to plant and pass the ball to Yao (Ming) and it rolled over. I mean, it rolled all the way over."
Rafer Alston also could be ready to return after missing the past two games with a strained groin.
The Hornets beat the Nuggets 93-88 in Denver on Nov. 4. However, much has changed since that third game of the season, especially in the past week.
Guard Morris Peterson is recovering from a strained back muscle and is probable for the game. Hornets Coach Byron Scott said Tuesday that Peterson participated in the team's light practice and would be a game-time decision, with a 40- to 50-percent chance he will play.
Forward Peja Stojakovic did light running Tuesday and is doubtful for the game while he recovers from a strained groin.
Veteran guard Chucky Atkins, who participated in a Nuggets charity event at ESPNZone on Tuesday, is out because of a strained groin. Nene (thumb) and Steven Hunter (knee) also are not expected to play. Eduardo Najera (knee) practiced Tuesday but is questionable for tonight's game at the Pepsi Center.
Nuggets forward Eduardo Najera, knocked out of Saturday's game against Sacramento in the first quarter with a left knee contusion, pronounced himself ready for tonight.
"I'm ready to roll," he said. "It's just a little sore, but I should be all right."
Najera sat out practice Monday. But he returned Tuesday.
"He believes in supporting the team," Karl said.
The Jazz had some injury to go with the insult of their 97-89 loss to Portland on Tuesday night.
Backup center Jarron Collins exited with seven-and-a-half minutes to go in the final quarter and took a couple stitches to close a cut over his right eyebrow.
Starting center Mehmet Okur was struck on the left shoulder by Trail Blazers big man Joel Przybilla with 4:47 remaining in the third quarter and left with a strained trapezius — the large muscle spanning the neck, shoulder and back.
He sat with a pad over the shoulder for the rest of the night.
And starting small forward Andrei Kirilenko was struck on the bridge of the nose after bumping heads with Portland's Channing Frye.
Kirilenko said he was disoriented for a few moments, but later was prepared to return. None of the three, however, re-entered the game after getting hurt.
All three, though, will be available to play when the Jazz visit Phoenix tonight, the Jazz announced after Tuesday's loss.
Guard Monta Ellis strained his left thigh in the second half, and is questionable for tonight's game at Portland.
