How accurate/predictive is ESPN's Basketball Power Index?

ESPN's BPI gives BOS a whopping 86% chance to win.  Sagarin and Massey's power ratings only have BOS as slightly stronger.  With GS's HFA the series seems roughly even to me.  I certainly think GS has a better than 1 out of 7 chance to win.

ESPN sucks in every possible way, including their meaningless and mostly wrong power indexes, ridiculous predictive models, etc...

I did see that ESPN's BPI gave CLV just a 7% chance in 2017.  GS won it in five games.

I saw Massey had the Celtics at 64 percent?

Accuscore had a more conservative 53 percent Celtics..The Models in general favor Boston but the betting markets favor Golden State..

#5 GS defeated #4 MEM, so anyone is justified in being skeptical.

espn is partners with draftkings and caesars when they show this they might as well be screaming,  please bet on the celtics, trust me they are going to win!  Please!!!

According to what I heard on Daily Wager, ESPN's BPI has been pretty accurate throughout this season's playoffs, which left the analysts gobsmacked when BOS was picked at a sky-high 86% probability.

Series underdogs have nabbed two out of the last three titles.

Maybe ESPN's BPI deserves a little respect.

please search disney draftkings partnership on yahoo.  They own 18 million shares of draftkings as of dec 2020.  They have an official partnership caesars, this was announced publicly.

Why don't you wait till the series is over to praise bpi  celtics need 3 more wins for bpi to be right.  Bpi had warriors winning game 1.  Draftkings had 80% of money on warriors -3.5 and they didn't move the line, I screwed up by betting on warriors tonight.  I interpreted what espn said wrongly because I wanted warriors to win because I have more futures on warriors then celts.

Time will tell.

It's been wrong time after time.  One example nfl week 17 colts had over 90% probability of beating jags and making playoffs  steelers had 3% chance of making the playoffs. colts lost, streelers made playoffs, bettors who followed bpi lost.  I think celts had a 70% win probability of winning game 6 vs heat, they didn't.  It may or may not be right on this series but its track record is not good.  If it was a poster on covers it would get mocked by a lot of trolls

For predictions... 18 of them picked GS but just 5 of them picked Boston..  They obviously all know the script so i wouldnt take anything the media says serious..

If GS does triumph, it won't be because of any conspiracy theories.

I'm not sure.. There are more models now compared to years past..I really don't know much about the ESPN BPI model they have but it seems to be well known? I saw Massey had the next game at 50 percent for  Boston.. Coin flip game in their eyes I assume..

But the models all seemed to like the Celtics but the betting markets favored the Warriors 

That probably mirrors what the public likes too.   The public must be in on it too.
