The NBA is one of those rare leagues where one man can make all the difference.
Just look at the Cleveland Cavaliers and their drop off since losing LeBron James to free agency this past summer. With the two-time MVP playing for the Miami Heat, what remains of the Cavaliers have dropped 26 straight games heading into Friday’s home tilt with the Los Angeles Clippers.
Sure, injuries and a coaching change have stunted Cleveland’s growth since losing LeBron, but this is pretty much the same team that finished first overall in the NBA last season with a 61-21 record. This season, the Cavs are 8-45 with a horrific 19-32-2 record against the spread.
If there was a bigger case for James’ third straight MVP title, basketball bettors haven’t seen it yet. The fact that Cleveland has gone from first to worst strictly based on LeBron’s departure adds to the legend of “The Chosen One”.
So while it’s easy to feel bad for the Cavaliers and the city of Cleveland for LeBron’s so-called betrayal and their incredible losing streak, basketball fans should look beyond Ohio and realize just how good James is.
At +200 to win another Most Valuable Player honor, LeBron is a steal.

How is it the same team?? Last year their starting lineup consisted of Mo Williams, Anthony Parker, Shaq, Lebron, and Andy Varejao. Coming off the bench for significant minutes was Delonte West, Big Z, Jamario Moon, and JJ Hickson. Throw in Jamison for 2 months there as well. Of all those guys the only players who have played signficicant minutes this year are Jamison, Parker, and Hickson. Now the starting lineup consists of those 3 guys and Christian Eyenga and Ramon sessions. None of who would be starters on any other team in the NBA.
My point being, yes Lebron is good, but his absence is not the main reason the Cavs have won only 8 games this year. It is a severe lack of talent due to injuries to core players. I'm not saying the Cavs would be good if Andy, Mo, Powe, etc weren't hurt, but it wouldn't be to the extent we are seeing.

Completely agree with your post. Yeah the cavs would be much worse anyways but they wouldnt have a 26 game losing streak completely healthy and with the SAME team minus lebron.
